Looks like there will be some changes in the works after the holiday. The developers posted up a blurb on the official boards about the backflagging issue.

Backflagging

As you know, when a guild gains or loses members, they often find themselves dedicating a large amount of time re-playing content that they have long since completed in order to gain access to zones for newer members. During our Community Summit this last summer, and in many subsequent discussions, we have heard the recurring desire to find a way to ease the frustrations associated with this backflagging.

While the issue is not as simple as removing flags altogether (we feel flags are necessary for the zones they are currently attached to), we have looked into ways that we can reduce the frustrations of backflagging and feel that we have arrived at a fair and equitable solution, which is detailed below.

- A new implementation of the 85/15 rule will be introduced into Planes of Power zones including the Plane of Time. This should resolve the outstanding problems that occur from time to time with the current 85/15 implementation.

- The new 85/15 will also be introduced for the locked zones in Gates of Discord.

- An alternate means of flagging guild mates for locked content in Planes of Power and Gates of Discord will be implemented that will allow you to flag raid members for the zone you are in by completing raid content within that zone.

The implementation varies slightly from zone to zone to fit the story and nature of the zone, but in general will involve killing a raid target within that zone, looting an item, and completing a single group quest to change that item into a zone flag. This only applies to zones that don't already have a single group task or system to gain access.

We will be opening threads on the forums for you to discuss these proposed changes and to gather your feedback on whether you feel this will hg!elp to resolve the current problems with backflagging. Please join the threads on our EQ forums and let us know your thoughts on these proposed changes. We hope to have these on the test server shortly after Thanksgiving and Live after proper testing.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

The EverQuest Team.

I could understand requiring a single group encounter to complete a flag, but if each single group "quest" involves multiple encounters, this is still going to be a headache for guilds -- unless several people happen to be recruiting at the same time and happen to be playing classes which compliment each other well enough that they can complete these steps without tying up flagged members.

This sounds like it will be much like PoP (PoJ) or GoD, where for quite a while 'push groups' had to get non-dps classes through certain trials. That was a helluva timesink.

At the very least, I hope these "single group quests" whether multiple encounters or encounter+other are fully instanced. God help us if we have to compete for ultra rare spawns with every other guild trying to backflag their new members.

SOE somehow always manages to create systems that might look good on paper but end up being a huge hassle for players. (Hello, running-around-to-numerous-NPCs-for-an-hour-trying-to-straighten-out-

We tried to zone some newer guildmates into QVIC on Thursday to test out Wed's patch and the 85/15 thing. We had 21 Qvic flagged and couldn't get any unflagged into Qvic through the Natimbi NPC.

Has anyone had success(es) getting unflagged into Time, Qvic or beyond?

What did the patch Wed. and Fri help with? Is the change merely helping get unflagged into elemental zones to hail a pp after killing bosses?

The unflagged people have to use the real zone line in Kod'taz or Yxtta afaik. Plus it was broken until friday patch.

Also the way the 85/15 thing worked before was you had to have 32 people in raid before you could even start gimping people in.

This is no longer the case. 5 flagged people can gimp 1 person in for an exp group.

I recently picked up:

1) Second Fragment of the Left Eye
2) Fifth Fragment of the Left Eye
3) Riftbreaker's Binding

during a Qvic raid. I'm told that these are parts of the quest to grant me the full flag, but I haven't had any luck finding where quest begins. Anyone have any ideas?

Btw, the fragments dropped frequently from trash mobs around pit and the "lore" suggest that the parts can be mended in a jewelry kit.

The "lore" for binding, which I got from zoo mob, suggests that if was to wear "four" items that I would get qvic access.

I've tried the npc's in KT but no luck.

heard there's 2 new npcs in KT ... one is a goat, Pixxt Nemisis iirc, (unattackable, when I tried to hail her she ported me out infront of a mob) in the middle ziggeraut just south of the zone inthe other I wasn't able to find.
