I am kind of bugged by this. Someone posted about burning affliction 4 over in spells, and the more I think about it the more I wonder why they didn't just do them all.

The foci are slot 3 augments, so in the first place you would need to buy or obtain an LDON item to put it on.

Second, the base level focus effects are either:

So common that you can get them on dozens of items...

OR

So rare that you can't find them no matter what you do...

AND they are always makeable through pottery if you get the right drops.

They already exist in the game in (in theory) an easily obtainable format. Letting someone have the greater flexibility of making a special LDON item for an ocassionally needed or missing effect would have been a very obvious way to add value to the expansion in a way that does not really negatively impact the game world in any way.

A heal 4 is not going to be a better option than Gift of Marr arms. If you already have a heal 4 say from the mini behemoths, you won't need a new one from LDON.

But if you can't track down a range focus or a burning afflication focus, this was the time to address it.

The really maddening thing is there is a scattering of focus effects on the LDON merchants, which seem to have little rhyme or reason. There is Burning Affliction 3, as well as spell haste 4. Why one at the level 4 focus but the other at level 3?

I am hoping there is still some trick as yet undiscovered that reveals more AP buyable stuff, but at this point I am left a little dumbfounded.

Amen!

This is something worth petitioning.
All level 4 basic focus effects should be somewhere in LDON.

I agree. I even more strongly agree that at a minimum whaever a mage can summon you should be available as an augment.

They should have put them very highly priced. Maybe 2500 or even 3000 points and all slots maybe even more cost.

This would make obtaining them very difficult BUT you could if you wanted them!

Though it would be inconsistent since there are already 2 level 4 focus effects out there for 1400 or less.

Perhaps if they were type 1 augments the price would be more appropriate. I certainly, without hesitation or question, would buy some level 4 augments for 3000 AP if I could put them on gear I already own.

If I needed to get a type 3 augment, plus a piece of equipment to put it on, plus other augments to fill the other slots...well you are quickly getting up t o a 7-10k AP item, which is pretty hefty compared to asking a mage to summon you something, or browbeating someone into helping you camp tradeskill components.

Fearless Forecast

Date: sometime in early 2004
What: SOE releases "expansion" containing 'new' items which are sold at ldon vendors up to 3450 pts. no new mobs, no new content, no new dungeons.
Price: $27.50
Download Price: $22.50

Well now that I posted this, maybe SOE will release the expansion at a later (or earlier) date to prove me wrong.

Yeah, I heartily agree. I've said the same thing on other boards, maybe they'll get an idea it's an obvious thing to include.
