Ok, this one has me scratching my head. The media is all over Rumsfeld for not personally signing condolances. But they really haven't been all that critical of him for his truly major fook-ups, like going to Iraq with too few, the rampant torture and prisoner abuse, the disregarding and firing of Pentagon generals that disagreed with him, the lackadasical effort to get armored transport... but they're all over him for not personally signing condolences.

How do you figure?

Everyone thinks he should have signed those letters. It's personal and he can't pass the buck. No debate. No argument. Very easy journalism.

Well that's funny, I thought media was all over him for the prisoner abuse, and I haven't even heard of this signing condolances issue.

Rumsfield has made tons of mistakes. Going into Iraq with no Exit Plan, Condoning the Prisoner Abuses, lobbying for Torture/Abuse as an interrogation Tactic, the death of 1300+ soldiers, not personally signing death letters to next of kin, even tho he is sposed to, the list goes on

I would rather receive a death letter signed by my sons commanding officer than signed by someone who never met my son.

Not at all, if we were expert generals, we'd have been fired by Rumsfeld.
