View Full Forums : What "type" of posts are allowed here?

A moderator not only closed a thread but deleted all the posts under it.

I was a moderator of this forum a few years ago and it was my understanding that unless the post was derogatory or inflamatory in some way that it was ok to post. If the post was in the wrong area it was moved but

NEVER were we allowed to delete a thread or post without a clear cut reason.

Do the moderator's now delete and close post just because "they" do not care for the content?

Before I post any further here I would like to know what rules "I" broke that required that the time I took to post those messages was wasted.

If select posts broke a rule or went over the line then by all means delete "those" posts but to nuke the entire thread?

A guild was recruiting Druids and thread became a discussion about what Druids bring bring to guilds, certain battles and their difficulties and yes.... a few post from me about past "select" guilds recruitment policies toward Druids.

There was no name calling. No rules broken that I can see yet the entire thread was wiped.

P.S. The "thread" says it was moved... moved where?

P.P.S. The moderator stated the thread was a rant thread.... what rants? What is a rant? Posting how Druids were treated in the past is now a rant?

P.P.P.S. If the few parts of the thread that were considered a "rant" caused an entire thread to be nuked.... why not just nuke the bad and keep the good?

P.P.P.P.S. If you deleted every thread that went off topic there would be few, if any, threads left. LOL

The merger/recruitment threads were all moved to the new "Merger" board, which was created as a central spot for folks to discuss the moves and see if they might want to go elsewhere. I didn't do the thread moves, but it is possible that a thread might have gotten deleted by accident. What thread were you referring to?

The thread about a guild recruiting Druids. The first post is still there but the dozen + replies were deleted and a post from a mod stated that the replies were rants. Perhaps one or two could be considered a rant depending on your definition but after re-reading the rules there was nothing close to breaking a rule.

There was one comment (directed at me perhaps) that was a tad bit hostile but compared to some of the "heated" debates that have gone on here it was light weight at best.

This board has to be one of the most civil I read and the cleric-druid "debate" that often goes on here and on teh SOE board is far far more hostile but it was always my understanding that as long as the posts did not become "personal attacks" that the mods would allow them.

Moderation of "off-topic" posts? Ack!

Either way let's let this die. The thread was not anything of substance (IMHO) and the original post asking for recruitment of druids still remains. I was only a bit shocked at to the justification for a dozen+ posts to be deleted and not even moved for no other reason than them being off topic :)

This was the thread:

http://eq.forums.thedruidsgrove.org/showthread.php?t=11045

there were over a dozen posts after the original message that were deleted.

hehe yeah, quite afew of those.

Usually the offending post would be deleted and a warning issued. Not the entire thread wiped.

the problem i think is Cassea, some people on our Server boards that dont like Froggerx are coming over to cause trouble... it would be only amatter of time before a few of the hard cases came over i think and started trouble

Nim's a new mod, cut him some slack =P He's still figuring out the actual technicalities of using the board functions

Suffice to say, I suspect the missing posts were no great loss ;)

The thread has been restored, and probably would have been taken care of faster if the admins were notified instead of doing a generic post in General.

I should have known better to just do a general post and for this I'm sorry for jumping the gun.

I guess we all get a little defensive when posts are deleted.

And yes new mods deserve more than a little slack as they are not only helping keep order in the forums but also donating their time free of charge.

Thank you to all the mods and please don't let my bark scare you away from the best forums in EQ!

Only a Admin, can delete any post. A mod delete just hides it from the public. Always best to take it up with a Admin first.
