WASHINGTON (CNN) -- More than 10,000 fugitives from justice have been captured in a nationwide, weeklong dragnet, law enforcement sources said.

Ok, so "Operation FALCON" was supposed to show that when federal and local authorities work together, they get a lot accomplished.

...where's that Obvious Bat when you need it?

"This just in: Three armed men held up the west branch of the First National Bank today. Police were amazed that the men were able to lift such a heavy building, but added the fact that they had three arms probably helped."

Some fugitives captured this month were less dangerous, and more old-fashioned than others. In cases described by an official as "the new and the old," the fugitives captured included operators of two methamphetamine labs and an illegal alcohol-producing still.

Good to know they're cracking down on moon shiners!

Hey, now there was a show yesterday about Moonshiners on the History channel. I was quite suprised to see that they still exist. Half the show was about how the government "revenuers" hunt down the dasteredly villians. I guess no crime is more serrious then cheating Uncle Sam out of his cut of the action.

Before the thread is derailed yet more....

I had heard this story on the evening news a few days ago. I was given to believe that this was not just to show that "when federal and local authorities work together" they can catch criminals. It was to show that, with more funding from Congress, they could do this more regularly.

Hey... if the gov'mint is supposed to get a cut of the production of alcohol, is it illegal to make your own home brew beer?

Nope, Anyone can brew beer and make wine legally as long as it's for personal/family use only. It's only the hard stuff that is not legal to make. Generally, they go after the moonshiners that are making some massive amounts of shine. Some of the operations involved production of Thousands of gallons a batch.
