Hi all: As I have said many times, you "posters" are something else. You are friendly, generous, helpful and are great "enablers". In fact without your assistance I would not be the 90 day wonder (sic) I am today... I am not stupid but am "ignorant" of the LANGUAGE of EQ. Please think back to when you started to play this great game-were you like me in that you did not know a "PoT" from a "PoK"lol? Great speakers know the level of their audience and present their speech in a manner that may be successfully received. They do not try to confuse their audience like Computer nerds do with their wierd abbreviations & doubletalk in a "vain" attempt to be superior... For example , this morning during my usual 2-3 hour study period of EQ I ran into the following: POT9,CH,Spam Healing,MGB, SOTW, MA,SA, POS, & Eci. So, I ask 2 things of you: !. When you post a message to a "help" or Newbie group would you be so kind as to Identify your FIRST abbrerviation for our understanding? For example when you use CS would you please take the time to do it as follows "CS (Cobalt Scar)". Please excuse my small flame but I hoped it would help a lot of us new newbies! 2. Tell me WHERE I can find a comprehensive listing of most of EQ's abbreviations. Thank you all. SoJo ( deduckman) 43 lvl HUM/DRU trying to be better every day.:wavey:

POT9 = Protection of The 9
CH = Complete Heal
MGB = Mass Group Buff
SOTW = Spirit of The Wood
MA = Main Assist
SA = ?? Not sure on this one
POS = Plane of Storms (depends on the context I suppose)

I haven't run across a comprehensive list but if I do I'll be glad to share it with you. BTW, I just completed my first Epic and got my Nature Walker's Scimitar (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=3571).

Gratz on the epic truid.

:blow:
You got them all right, too. SA stands for secondary assist. Mostly for raids when either the MA has a good chance of dieing (PoP+, in my experience), and when the mob rampages.
PoS is up for debate. I think of Plane of Storms as well, but some people tend to conjure up Fecal matter.
BTW, if there's anyone who thinks prank tells are funny (or is just really bored), send Zolrick (or bristlebane.zolrick, i suppose) a hug in a tell, he hates druids, lol.
Or prank tell me, I don't care.

SF usually means skyfire, from my exp. When asked for surefall glade, its usually SFG. Never been asked for steamfront.

Stranger in a Strange land wasnt that a book by heineken?
bad joke,

Hey but this might be work looking at.
http://www.onlinegamecommands.com/everquest/everquestabbriviations.htm

That website has quite a few common everquest abbriviations. What might be more useful in the future... how I found it, I just found it right now by using your question..

www.google.com

I went to that website, typed in two words
everquest abbriviations

and like magic.. found the website link that I listed above. Maybe you already know about google, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

Don't get to good with it tho, I like reading your posts ;-)

I've also seen SA also used for Secondary Assist...When in multiple groups or raids, Ya in a group of 6 with a beastlord SA probably does mean spiritual ascendence.

But thats the trouble with shortening things down, can lead to confusion, although I use them myself all the time. Like the time when I started gateing for money and this guy asked for a gate to "SF" and I said sure.... and gated him to my then game home, Surefall Glade .... Which led to a short discussion...

Him...Where we at....
me... Surefall Glade isn't that where you wanted to be?
Him...No, I'm KOS to Druids I need to go to skyfire--meanwhile he's beating on my guild master. (KOS meaning ... kill on sight)

me...ack gateing in ..9,8,7

I got the gate loaded fast enough and got him out of there before he (or the ranger/druid guildmaster) was killed, and profusely apologized. I wondered why a dark elf would want to go to Surefall lol, should have asked. Buffed him with a sow an stuff after got him to Skyfire so he wasn't mad.

PoS can also be Paragon of Spirit, but thats usually obvious by context.

Raidleader tells the raid "MGB PoS NOW!"
Beastlord_01 tells the raid "MGB down, sorry"
