People..people...people...

I am amazed that you all haven't seen it this far. :banghead:

posit 1: EQ II has a vastly changed Norrath...physically there have been many, many changes to the face of Norrath.

Posit 2: In EQ II there are various items and places that we take for granted now are not there... Luclin, PoK, Pok Books, porting from zone to zone, along with access to the various planes of the Gods.

Posit 3: In EQ II I understand that the lore of the new Norrath mentions various wars and cataclysms that happened in their past..OUR FUTURE.

It is my belief that some of these events that are described in EQ II are starting to happen now in EQ I. I would not be surprised to find out that the war between the dark elves and Freeport is only the opening gambit of the end of Norrath as we know it. (i.e. the true end game is beginning) It may take a year or 3, but IMHO this is the end of Norrath as we know it and in some (hopefully innovative) I suspect that we will all be "encouraged" to transfer our accounts to EQ II....just to stay in Norrath.

If the "developers" do this final scenerio right, then I will salute them, as they have given us a wonderful time for the whole duration of the game....all this games faults included. I do hope that they are working on the final scenerio that will mark the transition from EQ I to EQ II and what that might entail will be subject to much discussion and speculation.

It would have been a good idea if they had done it before EQ2 launched. Little late now that we know what EQ2 is like.

It would have been great if EQ2 was EQ1 in the future with bug fixes and things they could not do in EQ1... instead EQ2 seemingly tries to be the "anti-EQ1" and tosses out even the good that was EQ1 and in the end comes out with a game that is in many ways worse than the current EQ1 graphics wise and so utterly watered down that many, myself included, want nothing to do with EQ2.

So they can kill off EQ1 if they wish but IMHO most people, if forced, would not move to EQ2 just because a few places have the same names.

I will say that people will most certainly "not" move to EQ2 because of the wonderful way SOE treats the player base.

Despite what SOE would have you think, EQ2 is based on SWG.... sure it's been seriously tweaked but deep down it's the same game core with the same flaws which sunk SWG and will sink EQ2.

The real question is... which will last longer.... SWG or EQ2.... my $$$ is on SWG not because it may be a better game but because the Star Wars nuts will play anything with the name on it LOL.

I'd put my cash on Vanguard over all of them, frankly.

This may be the begining of some nice in game lore, but I strongly doubt it'd be anything more. There's absolutely no reason to take a game like EQ that is profitable and run it in the the ground just to keep the background info for eq2 perfect. And even at some future date EQ is no longer profitable I doubt they'd do that either, since it'd be resources spent poory financially. EQ2 has been described by the developers as an alternative universe, so the story line isn't hooked.

Besides, as most have said, EQ2 is not nearly good enough to be worth it for the customer.

EQ2 is a good game, if a bit bland in class distinction. With a little work in that area, the game would be pretty damn good. However, I won't play it or any other SOE game as long as they continue their plans for the Exchange Enabled servers.

I don't think there's even a remote chance there will be a transition to EQ2. The game mechanics are too different. There's no way to transfer characters between the games, and without that ability it won't happen.

If that is true, then I'll keep an eye on EQ3, were events take place in OUR PAST of EQ1. "The prequel" (sp?)

Dark elven wars with Freeport are nothing new. We've been trying to exterminate those pasty faced vermin for years. Unfortunately we were always beaten by the 3rd party beast who always intervenes in these wars: The Lag Monster.

Besides... SOE isn't going to turn off the constant drip of money that EQ I surely must provide.

Really made me think this is going beyond the standard in game lore. There's certain things in games that become or are integral; an entire expansion and the most active zone are certainly up there.

I'd love to see some of the lore described early on for EQ2 with the invasion of the nexus by minions of solusek ro and rallos zek, the war in shadowhaven and ultimately see what destroyed luclin. It would certainly be fun.

the pre eq2 lore would indeed be nice to see.... perhaps even experience.... but i spend a good amount of time playing eq2 and i moved back to eq1. i wouldn't switch to eq2 again, i already decided i didn't like it as a game, even if i knew the history behind it.

the story on the other hand, is a great one. like someone else said, too bad it's not the same game just in the future.

They stated prior to the release of EQ2 that EQ2 is an "alternate future". i.e. the lore of EQ2's past is not based on anything that may or may not occur in the future of EQLive.

That set aside, SOE is about 3, maybe as little as 2 more gaffs and they won't need to worry about plot tricks to get people to leave EQLive, they will do that on thier own.

They cannot keep adding AA's and levels endlessly. The EQ1 backbone was still designed around a level 50 game with no AA points and limited ability sets.

IMHO they have pushed the existing EQ1 core to the max. Already the addition of AA points that "officially" do not count as level have placed many aspects of the game out of whack.

I was hoping that EQ2 would keep what was good about EQ1 and add the missing items instead of redoing almost everythign about the game.

Talk about tossing the pot with the bad water LOL.

I tried EQ2 for a number of months but it was too watered down for me. The graphics got really bad over the months as they lowered the graphics to help with the lag.

Dare I say that EQ1 graphics in the new zones look better and sharper than EQ2.... ok I'll say it :)

I have been only playing EQ for little over a year, great came, I love it. On the other hand, I have yet to chat with anyone who has played EQ2 that liked it. After all the time and effort of leveling my druid, trade skills, etc, there is no way I would want to start over on EQ2.
