View Full Forums : The PoP that could have been

Imagine a PoP where

There are 6 tiers of zones.

You can freely go into any tier 1-4 plane. To get into Tier 5 you must get flagged by killing all the gods in the Tier 1-4 planes. To get flagged for Tier 6 (plane of time) you go to the Tier 5 zone (hall of the gods?) and kill the "ghosts of the gods".

In the Tier 1-4 zones the gods walk their planes freely and woe to the hapless adventurers who are caught afk or sucking up exp along a zone wall. If attacked they call their guards to their aid.

Parchments drop relative to what zone you in. Tier 1 drop parchments for lvl 61, Tier 2 for lvl 62, Tier 3 for lvl 63, Tier 4 for lvl 64. Minibosses in Tier 4 planes drop lvl 65 runes, minibosses in other tiers can drop a rune. Armor and equipment upgrades drop off mobs which are lvl 60+ and drop at about the rate of 1 in 1000 kills. Mobs actually have cash on them instead of baking supplies or knitting needles.

Ahh what could have been.

...would not have anything called parchments.

If you want to make spells quested, do real quests.

If you want to make spells dropped, do real drops.

This bizarre hybrid that puts all but 3 classes in the game in competition for the same rare drops would never be part of my ideal.

Well the Bait and Switch routine works well for them, why would they want to change anything? People keep buying their expansions anyway almost no matter what they do, shrug.

Just sprinkle a few windblades here and there, and very nice spectral drops rates in tier 3 zones. Then 1 month after release, you can just remove it again, to keep people farming until you have the next expansion ready.

Not the next one, if there is one. I can gaurantee that. Less people anyway, look at how many people have quit in the last couple months (myself included) and those that are likely to quit in the next couple months if the serious, and I do mean serious problems are not fixed.

Bait and switch works so good I bought AC2 and Camelot expansion and am now playing them. I keep checking forum to see if they have fixed the PoP problems like NO flags for the planes just the raid zones within and parchments. Till they do I am not playing. Giving them another month then canceling my accounts. OH PS ....Camelot expansion is very nice but had to upgrade to gforce 4....made the game fun again, and they know how to do expansions.

I dont mind the flag requirement for Tier 2. tier 3. Tier 4. Tier5.

I do mind, the multiple flag requirements for Tier 2.

One flag for all of Tier2. Valor, Sky, PoNB, etc.
and you can get that flag any of the ways.
Trials, Hedge Maze, etc

One Flag for all of tier 3. BoT, HoH, etc
and you can get that flag multiple ways. Either en mass by killing ANY of the bosses. or doing ANY of the quests.

((Its not unreasonable to do any HoH or BoT quest. It IS unreasonable to do All of them.))

Tier system is reasonable in theory. They just went way too far by making multiple lairs of tiers.

I don't mind the idea of parchments so much, but Verant's implementation has not been ideal.

With Kunark spells, it was always sad to be raiding somewhere and a nice spell dropped that nobody in the group could use. At least in PoP, this parchment can be used by some caster in the group. Unfortunately, there are too many duplicates and the drops of the parchments are entirely too rare.

The parchments would've been fine if you didn't get dupes. Even with dupes, trading, selling... it's still not bad. Better than having spell drops like in Kunark and Luclin. However, the lack of spectrals and runes is abhorent.

I don't mind the idea of parchments, flags, high difficult zones, trials, high exp and low loot zones, and levels to 65.

But, its like they designed PoP without a glance at the rest of EQ except for what zone connections via books there would be in PoK.

After all this time, something like going on 160 played hours on Teri, I have no desire to have such a fundamental change in my game. I've said it all before in my posts, I won't rehash it again. I know no one reads them anyway except me. I feel better when I write about how this expansion has impacted me. This game has been a source of real enjoyment through the years. I find it sad ending this way. I always figured someday I would quit, but I thought it would be a choice I worked toward. Having that choice packaged with a really bad Firiona Vie doll was not something I expected or wanted.

I need a forum for post eq strategy.

Bait and switch, heh. I love the "no timesinks in PoP" line. Oh lordy... Keys upon keys upon farm happy keys. Trials, mazes, long spawn key mobs you need to... get this... farm keys to get to. Dear lord. Who was the @#%$ that said "no timesinks in PoP?"

TeriMoon, I read all of your posts :)

Some great ideas that could have been. Too bad nobody that can actually do something about them reads the forums anymore.
