Ok, I am a 43 druid with the spell Allure of the Wild. Last time I looked, it said Allure of the Wild allowed me to control animals up to level 49. Is that really true? While in Eastern Wastes I was hunting and saw some dark blue (conned) Wholly Mammoths. I tried to charm him. It failed and I had to kill him. I tried again with another Mammoth that also conned dark blue. It failed as well. Am i doing something wrong or is there information I am just not understanding??

Thanks for setting me straight.

Sometimes their magic resist is just high enough to resist it, it happens.

Yes, many times charm gets resisted...one reason to use our animal only debuff. Also a ggood reason to ensnare the mob first as well.

Ack, thupttt! We have an animal only debuff? what is it? What level do you get and what levels is it for?

Glamour of Tunare, low 50s I think... jeez, take a 19 month break, and I can't remember anything! I'm pretty sure that's the spell though.

1 . try to keep some form of movement haste on you (sow and later soe).

2. until you get the hang of things, keep your pet snared with ensare. that way if charm breaks, you can outrun it and have enough time to recast charm.

3. always debuff the mob with glamour of tunare when you get it. if you can duo with a chanter, have him tash the mob.
- charm is a resist vs magic.

4. grab some CHA boosting items/buffs. not necessary but will help charm last longer.

5. haste is optional. I prefer hasting my pet but realize if charm breaks the mob is attacking you hasted!

IIRC, charm resist checks are the following:
1. save vs magic.
2. level
3. charisma

when charming a higher level mob, it has a greater chance of breaking charm. lower level mobs have a reduced chance of breaking charm.

higher your charisma the better, in general. although once you are sufficiently higher level than a mob, it rarely gets down to that final charisma check. for example, a level 65 in PoN should have little problems maintaining a pet.

some mobs have higher magic resist attributes. I tend to find that newer zones have mobs with increased MR.

I agree, the animal probably just resisted your spell. For this reason and for when charm breaks, I usually always keep a charmed animal snared. This way you have a chance to run away and try to cast charm a 2nd or even 3rd time until it holds.

The animal only de-buff magic spell is Glamor of Tunare, lvl 53 spell I believe. I used it a lot when trying to charm Ravenous Nightstalkers (lvl 51 mobs) in Plane of Nightmare using the lvl 52 charm Call of Karana spell.

Another useful spell is Savage Spirit (lvl 41 spell). It's a melee haste buff for your pet if you can keep it alive. Just have to remember when charm breaks, be a fair distance away from your pet to recharm him. Or you'll have a hasted animal beating on you.

GOOD LUCK!!

I also found a Sand Eroded Shell to be ideal for charming. With this item you can cast Savage Spirit from inventory which allows you to free up a spell slot.

It drops off an Undead Weaponsmith in Nadox - http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=40221

Just out of curiousity, how hard is the Weaponsmith in Nadox to kill? I've been trying like crazy to find a sand eroded shell on the bazaar and can't find one to save my life, so I'd rather go and get one if we aren't talking raid-type item.

If you're good at charming indoors (and root parking when necessary), you should have little trouble soloing the weaponsmith.
It helps to be able to use the exhausted bloodtusk as a pet, but that requires the level 63 charm spell.
