Like many, I'm returning to EQ after a long absence:) Wasn't there a big hunting guide? I can't seem to find it.

New hotspot: 24- ~30's overthere! Amazing place they sit at the ZL to skyfire I think it is? Scary how much fun, and how EASY it is! (Can solo there as well....)

Ya! There are animals in Overthere for fear kiting solo. Personally I think they hit rather hard for mid 20's. The biggest problem in Overthere for good races is the Dark Elf Dragoon guards that wander. They are in their 50's and are rather nasty if trained to the group while at the Skyfire ramp. But on a bright sunny day they can easily be spoted and avoided.

So besides learning to quad at 31 in Iceclad, other zone ideas for solo include Stonebrunt mountains (Pandas are 30ish and animals!), Jaggedpine forrest has some cave balisks from lvl 30-33 to root and dot, and Gulf of Gunthak has lots of undead on Shore in their low to mid 30's (another Pally playground with undead).

Grouping ideas around lvl 30ish include basement of Unrest, Dawnshroud Peaks (Zelniaks / Tribal workers and gatherers), Marus Seru (Stonegrabbers, Zelniaks, and Greyhoppers), Crystal Caverns (entrance found in middle of Eastern Wastes - click ball statue just inside gate of fort), Crypt of Dalnir (never been myself), Tower of Frozen Shadow (take some pallys, clerics and nuke the undead - be aware this zone has 7 levels and need keys for each floor)

Here's what I did for exp if it helps at all!
1-6 Greater Faydark (it's been forever since I've seen any newbies at the newbie lift =/)
6-15 Crushbone
15-24 Paludal Caverns
24-34 High Keep
34-40 LDoNs
40-47 Dreadlands (this gets really really slow as you go up in level and is slow anyways if you aren't chain pulling)
47-51 PoJ
51-55 PoI
55-58 PoN soloing nightstalkers
58-63 PoV
63-65 Riwwi
65-67 WoS
67-70 MPG
about 400 AAs - RSS/Nest

general suggestions:

At low level gear/buff is very important. At level 1 your total hp is <20 but a set of +hp gear can give you multiple hundreds of hp. A cleric buff (temp) can add 400hp as well! Your offense at low levels is also mediocre, however you can buy weapons that 'proc's so that you'll kill mobs faster. A druid buff can give you +35 Damage Shield (DS)! There are also hp/ds/mana potions with the recent expansion. Use them and you'll fly through the lower levels since you'll almost never need to take med breaks to recover hp/mana. You can hunt anywhere as far as you don't get killed (with your ~1k hp that's highly unlikely unless you do something stupid). However I do recommend PC, CB and the Unrest since these give bonus exp. Also I recommend straight melee tactic with DS on yourself. Don't bother grouping with other people -- some people at low levels are newbies and they don't know what to do, so grouping with them = suicide. Don't bother with using spells, either -- you'll fizzle a lot and us up all your mana before the first mob drops. DS, DS, and more DS! That should be able to take you to around level 30. Now you may ask how can I get the pps to buy these gear? Easy. There are several tasks in lavastorm mountains which involves no killing, and you sell the reward to merchants for 100+pp. You can only do these tasks once every hour, however you can log on another char to rotate it. You'll get enough money to buy some gear before long.

Mid to high levels: do MM missions. They give better exp. Every several levels try some regular playing so that you don't look like a ebay'ed player.

And after you follow xyu's suggestions, spend the next week working on raising all of your skills to appropriate levels as well as work on learning how to play your class.

Working one you skills is not as bad when you can get up in levels and get in a group cause if you can't get in a group its hard to practice. Leveling is harder that getting most skills up.

After you PL yourself or get help go to the newbie zones and buff newbies to practice skills and even go to places where mobs are LB or DB to you and you weapon skills if you still need some work in those.
