I seem to recall reading that DST was changed recently. Anyone remember what the details are? It was supposed to be for a shorter period of time.

I never understood why we even still use DST anymore.

I fail to grasp how making DST two months longer will effect our energy <chuckle>.

People will turn on the lights when its dark and turn down the AC when its cool, regardless if their clock says 6 or 7.

Provided they're awake. From an energy PoV it's pointless -here- where the winter is dark and cold 24/7, but I can certainly see how it can effect energy usage in places where there actually is a difference between day and night in the winter.

Arid states are like that. In CO I'm sure it's already down in the sub 30s at night and up in the 70s during the day. That place has a climate like a desert.

Interesting, my Yahoo calendar also says Savings, instead of Saving.

Sounds a bit like a bank: Daylight Savings and Loan

If we're saving daylight, I'd like to make a withdrawal tomorrow morning around 7 AM

If you're making a withdrawl, you aren't saving are you? Sheesh, and you call yourself jewish?

(Disclaimer: Hopefully Aidon's seen my name many enough times to take that jab as the 100% good-natured fun-poking at stereotypes it was intended as. If not, apologies in advance.)

The change to the first weekend in November was due to Halloween - they say it's to help kids not have to trick-or-treat in the dark, but the Candy manufacturer lobbyists were really pushing for it. :)

Damn that candy lobby.

I don't know of any kids who still go trick or treating these days. They all go to parties instead.

They do in my area. My brother said the Mexican mothers come around and ask for candy too.

I'm taking my 4 year-old trick-or-treating. Small town, lots of kids still go if the weather is decent.
