Ok, so I'm a little wary of remanfactured/refurbished products in general, but I found a pair of Sennheiser HD-497's on Amazon for $35, that are remanfactured. So I was just wondering if anyone had any opinons on Amazon as a whole, or getting remanfactured products from them, etc! I've never bought anything from Amazon in general, so =-p

Amazon - I have bought books from them for 5 years now in Germany. They delivered fast and in the beginning even without any delivery cost. That was because there is a book price binding, which means that any book must be sold for the same price, regardless where. So it was easy to order a book and let it be delivered to your grandma for free in another town.

In the last 2 years or so they charge for delivery and it has got quite expansive to order there. If you order above a certain amount they dont charge, however thats about 50€ or so.

Amazon was a good place to buy books at until they started their partnership programm which means that if you buy a book you never know for sure if it is from Amazon or from another seller who has different rules.

Anyway, I was never disappointed with Amazon so far, so maybe you will be happy with this remanufactured stuff, though I dont really know what that means. Are these original products or are the copied?

To be remanfactured means that it's a product that has had parts replaced to bring it back up to at least the original quality of the product. So at some point it wasn't working right, but it was sent back and remade to bassicaly new quality. And this has free shipping on it, any orders over $25, so that's not too bad really. The only other place with anything near this price was eCost.com and they've gotten some REALLY horrible reviews. The rest of the places with this specific product listed are brand new for $60-70, and long waits. As it's a discontinued product, but a really fantastic set of headphones.

I've done a lot of bidness with Amazon. I buy used books sometimes and the seller won't ship, Amazon cheerfully refunds your money. I think they're great!

I went ahead and ordered them, hopefully it goes well =-p I had some cheap-o headphones that I managed to make not working anymore, so been looking for a replacement and these have gotten rave reviews for the sound and comfort of them. And at a really good price, it's worth a shot. Thanks for the help you two =-) Sidenote: I opted for the non free shipping.. the free shipping is a 5-9 day wait =-( The 3~ day shipping is only $5, but I also got like $3.50 tax on it, which was odd.

Well I bought a factory refurbished laptop about 3 years ago and I haven't had a problem with it ever. I use it 8+ hours a day and treat it like crap. I got it from ubid though and not amazon but I can't imagine amazon not being just as good. I am a fan of refurbished after that though.

I've bought books through Amazon. New books is simple. Rare books they say they'll find but never actually do. I find it faster myself. As an example, I was looking for a rare art book. Amazon said they'd look and let me know. Barne's and Noble found it immediately. Actually they found several copies and gave me the choice of which I wanted. Amazon replied three months later with "we can't find it, have a nice day".

SO, order books that are in print and you'll be fine. If you need to find something rare, look for it yourself.

As for other products, I have no real idea. Refurbished is just like saying factory repaired anyway.

If you buy refurb through Amazon, just make sure that it is actually Amazon you're buying from. Many companies use Amazon as a storefront, so if you have to return an item, the return policy is not Amazon's, but instead, the other company's. If you're buying from an Amazon-hosted company, make sure you look up their return or warranty policy beforehand so you know what you'll be getting into.

The thing about refurb is that it's a crapshoot. While all goods are supposed to be in "as new" condition, the repair may not include external damage, so don't be surprised if your item has scratches or dings. The other thing is, a lot of times you can find the refurb products on the direct manufacturer's site. However, if Amazon still offers free shipping over $25 for the item, the small savings may not be worth the cost of shipping.
