The Orcs Legos in Stoneroot Falls no longer Drop Spell Runes, per http://eqforums.station.sony.com/eq/board/message?board.id=Veterans&message.id=196024&jump=true

Just a Heads up.

They are just going out of their way to drive people away now. The fact that they actually did it is almost as silly as his explanation.

Heh you can't honestly say that you think 18-20 rune drops per hour is balanced, or even logical when compared to every other single location in the game.

Most of the people getting runes there were not getting anythign like 18-20 drops an hour. I am sure there are groups that could do that , there are bottom feeders everywhere, but that was not common. If that was common, those mobs would have been camped 24/7 and on Bertox at least they are almost always uncamped.

And my point was more to the fact they make unannounced changes like this all the time. They leave people there killing the mobs waiting for a drop until they finally decide to fess up on the message board.

While I agree they should have mentioned it, the drop rate was exceptionally high from the few times I was at that camp. It wsa to the point where an orc *not* dropping a rune was more of a rarity them them having one.

It wsa not uncommon at all for a average or below average group with low/moderate dps to come out with 8-12 runes an hour. A High DPS group could hit 20+.

Assuming your doing the State Camp in RS, and both names spawn every time during an hour, your still going to be very very hard pressed to even come up with 6 runes, let alone 12.

Agreed, I couldn't imagine the drops were intentional. Few guildies knew about it, so we actually took 2 groups over as a mini-raid to farm for the guild. 90% of the time a rune dropped.

As to why it wasn't perma-camped, I'm only guessing but not a lot of folks knew about that camp in my circles.

So much for not paying out the nose for runes for my alt.

They didn't drop greater or glowing, to the best of my knowledge, so there's a big reason to leave 'em alone right there. Those runes are tradeable, they could come from anywhere, and the bazaar always has a ton of them. All the orcs did was drive the price down - assuming they were farmed.

Secondly, and more importantly (not that it effects me, but I make the point anyway), you don't fix a "woops, too big a drop rate" problem by removing the loot from the drop table. Genius, SOE. Design genius.

I swear I had heard of a greater dropping there, never actually camped them myself, so just the rumor mill.

We did a couple hours there weeks ago, and the drop rate was absurd. We left with over 30 runes, which took care of everyone missing a 66-68 spell and a few left overs. Not one glowing or greater drop though.

I agree that was not the intentional drop rate, but nice to see them "fixing" DoDh issues after the new expansion hits.

Yes, I did see a greater or two drop there.

If you consider that the equivalent runes only dropped off named in OOW, they should never have dropped off the orcs anyway.

With the caveat that OoW is now 4 expansions ago (PoR, DoD, DoN, OoW). They have consistently made it easier (in the past) to get spells and other items once an expansion gets sufficiently old. RGC becoming an LDoN purchase, instead of a rare SoL raid drop, kunark (and now PoP and GoD) spells becoming researchable, etc.

It's just a way for the casual, part-time, behind-the-curve, bazaar-equipped player to finally get their spells. Don't flame me, I'm speaking as one ;)

Heh, I am glad my alt has all her spells to 69 then. =P

Honestly, I am truly surprised they didn't nerf this sooner. A common trash mob dropping a rune with nearly every kill? I took my group there for 45 mins one night to get Nae her spells. We left with 9 runes.

I also never saw that place camped on my server tho. So, not to many people were farming them to sell it seemed.

I don't see a problem with the runes dropping off trash, comparably tons of spells drop off trash in old zones like Skyfire. However, in light of that high of a drop rate (I haven't done that camp for more than about 10 minutes) it probably is a little bit much. Reducing the drop rate to something in line with 5-6 runes an hour wouldn't be too absurd especially if they're the tradable ones. Baz prices are coming down on our server for em, but 7-8k for a minor rune is a little bit much for this day and age considering the newer players won't have that kind of plat but still need those spells. Greater/Glowing runes dropping off anything but named would be something to look at imo though.

I should move to your server. Minors and lessers are still going for an average of 12k, even when there's several up for sale at once.
