Anyone did this? Any hints? Where is a nice spot to kite solo?

Red cons are usually in the middle of a group of 5 blue-white mobs.
AOE snare wont work, gets 1-2 max .. harmony didnt seem to be very effective
...and when 4 unsnared mobs run after me i find that they run so fast i dont have time to cast anything.
(I have only a 23% spell haste focus)

Only once i managed to pull a red with only 1 add ... but then it summoned and had to evac.

Harmony.

Snare named.

Run away

Evac

Go back and get now single named mob.

Kill.

As a Paladin/Mage boxing combo.... I similiarly....

Tag named....
Root named...
Run my Pally tooshie off..
CoH Paladin with bot Mage.
Run back and get named.

Mobs used to hit like trucks (haven't been there since the patch.. I hear they were made easier).. so extreme care to be taken if you don't have Ext Range.

Just to clarify on your post Fenier =) do you use Harmony or Nature's Serenity?

(I'm thinking of trying this with a Shammy friend.)

Harmony of Nature is not high enough to impact the mobs in Dev.

I can only say I know a couple necros who do this with ease, and one is a good friend who spent a LONG time figuring out pet pulling. I was with him one night (got me my evil eye skin) and the experience was sweet if slow.

I do know his favored spot is about 12 o'clock from the zone in.

Helps having a lower-level pet that isn't one-rounded by an arctic wyvern....LoL

All Giants summon
Red Con Spiders summon
Red Con Trolls summon
Red Con Fury's summon
Red Con Undead summon
All named summon..

everything else is free for all. soloing here is quite easy once you get the hang of it and most skins can be soloed.. xp is crap compared with 69.1 or the nest though. 69.1 FTW

Not all red con spiders and such summon, it's pretty much random. I've soloed at least one of each of the ones listed there except for the giants and managed to be lucky enough to not have them summon. Giants always do even if they're not red from what i've seen.

Confirming Sinbyen's comments - if you're not comfortable soloing summoners, keep trying you will eventually hit a red con of most types that doesn't summon (undead and giants definately excluded, can't say for certain on others.

I can say it seems that only the red con Bolvirk Hersir's drop the skin, and they still hit over 2k since the patch which supposedly made Devastation easier. Given that they summon, you'd have to be pretty uber to solo this particular skin :)

That is correct. Only the red con Hersirs drop the skin in Dev. Also, I am 90% sure any Hersir in Samples instance will drop it too.

You can get your Devastation song/spell without doing the Saga Skins task. You don't even have to mess with the red cons at all. All you have to do is kill the wimpy blues near zone-in and collect 4 NO DROP body parts of the same type. (I got four eye pieces). Once you've got those, head to Sverag and talk to the non-KOS mob right behind the breakable door. Get whatever task it is your 4 NO DROP items are for (in my case it was "Bring me their eyes" ) and turn 'em in! Congrats you on your spell.

The only downside is if the body parts you collected are for the race that happens to own Sverag when you go in, you won't be able to turn in. Right now the zone is controlled by orcs ..so if you have orc heads atm your SOL until a new race takes over.

This DOES work ....took me about 45 minutes today.

Just to clarify a couple things, since I have spent a lot of time in devastation now doing the skins collections:

Each race has several different red spawns, any of these red spawns will usually drop one or more skins. The red con giants being the main exception in that its the red con hersir giants only for sure skin drops.

Several races will have red champions spawn, these are normally the best bets for nonsummoners. The undead horsemen will spawn in packs where the guards are all red cons, these will not summon and will drop skins. The red con evil eye overfiends will tend not to summon as well.

There is no location away from zone in that will stay safe forever but there are points along the outer wall where mobs tend not to spawn. Its best to set up camp just a little in from the wall, in casr mobs do spawn along the wall in your area.

Devastation is a difficult zone but it is quite possible to solo effectively. Just keep egress ready at all times, heh.

Thanks for posting this! I just did it (on my monk) and got all 4 in about an hour and a half.

Red con mobs in Deva usually have three or so different forms ( Named + others ). There's usually one in each mob type that doesn't summon ( Except Giants ). Perhaps making a list of the mobs that summon vs mobs that don't would be helpful.

e.g Werewolf

a ravager = summon
an elder = non-summon

Myself and a couple friends killed a red Hersir...he dropped skin alright, but it wasn't the no-trade one needed for the Skins mission...I was soooo mad when I tried turning it in to Maelin LoL

Really? I have never seen the red con Hersirs in Dev not drop the skin. It has been a 100% drop rate for me.

You can also try killing the Restrained Ceraton in Sverag if you need a Bolvirk skin, whether or not the Bolvirks are in control of the zone.

Cereton is up usually when Evil Eyes are in control of the zone as well. If he's not around The Subjugant usually is and always drops the giant skin. Best way to get to him is to sneak to the ruined part of the wall on the right side and levi over.

Other mobs don't assist him ( even mobs of the same type ). He always respawns every 20 mins and drops nice melee augs too.

If you bring a decent group, you can also clear the jail rooms to the north ( an imprisoned enemy ). They are PH'ers for named that drop hp / mana / end augs.

No. Neither Saga Skins, Become the Vessel, nor the alt quest are needed for ToB directly. Saga Skins and Become the Vessel are needed in order to get the real flag mission, Samples of Corruption.

1. If you want just the spell, do the alt quest.

2. If you want to be able to start Samples of Corruption yourself, do Saga Skins and Become the Vessel.

3. If you know someone who can start Samples of Corruption for you and are okay with that route, don't bother with #2.

I think at one point you only needed Vessel (for Razorthorn key) and Samples to complete ToB access. However, I am all but certain that everyone DOES have to have the first 2 skins tasks done (Saga Skins/Preparing Your Skin) now in order to be able to do the required chime handin to Oathmir in devastation. At least thats the understanding my guild has had over the past few weeks when we have been working on getting everyone flagged.
