Belle the beagle is a VIP -- a very important pooch, and she's being honored in Washington as a lifesaver.

Kevin Weaver is a Florida man who suffers from diabetes. When he had a seizure and collapsed, Belle bit into his cell phone, hitting the 911 auto dial button.

Weaver said there's no doubt in his mind that he would be dead if not for his four-legged best friend.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Belle is the first canine recipient of the VITA Wireless Samaritan Award. It's given to a person, or now a dog, who uses a cell phone to save a life.

Reminds me of the recent Cat Calls 911 to Help Owner (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/01/02/national/a014307S88.DTL&type=bondage)Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair.

Rosheisen said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911.

Ehm, I don't even know what the heck to dial in Spain if there's an emergency ... There are so many numbers, the local police, the municipal police, the national police, the firemen, the ambulance, the civil guard, all with their own phone number. Confusing isn't the word :o
