I'm asserting that there will be either troop reductions announced in the next few months, strategically before the election.

Anyone think otherwise? Or even better, is there anyone that thinks it will not be done for political gain in the November elections? :sumo:

I'd be shocked if you weren't right. I'm looking forward to seeing how they spin it so that it doesn't look like they caved to their opposition.

Some new security Iraqi forces have just been trained to replace a few hundred South Koreans. Any bets the next lot will be trained up to replace a thousand US forces somewhere?

On a related note:
For things like this, perhaps vBookie could be installed on the forums? That was done on the Ayonae Ro (server) forums:
http://www.ayonae.ro/
The betting generally occurs in the Sports forum:
http://www.ayonae.ro/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Note that all bets use vCash, which is NOT in any way related to any kind of currency. It's all play money.

Just a thought; it could be entertaining. :)

Levin: Bush will use withdrawal as political tool in election

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democrats who have called for U.S. troops to start coming home from Iraq said a proposed withdrawal plan reportedly put forward by the top American general there shows their criticism has been on the mark.

President Bush's Republican allies in Congress in recent weeks have criticized Democratic proposals for getting out of Iraq, accusing the opposition party of laying plans to "cut and run" from the war.

Oh yeah, another thing I'm thinking... we'll see some Orange alerts again. :p Or more reports of things like "The Miami 7", which I'm beginning to think were non-terrorists, braggards and malcontents made into Al Quaeda terrorists for political expediency.
For things like this, perhaps vBookie could be installed on the forums? Whee! That'd be fun.

I am predicting that they were going to happen anyway but since any fool can sing a stop light and claim it will change because of the singing if you just sing long enough, there will be those politicians using it to claim political points. After all, if you keep proclaiming the need to reduce troops long enough it will happen.

You're probably right though, the number of "spoiled terrorist plots" will go up and team news coverage of soliders dying in Iraq will go down. Maybe a press release about how our economy is recovering.

I'm getting old and have been listening to news radio in the morning on the way to work.

Anyhow - the spin has already started in a big way. The line you are going to start hearing over and over is... "Its time for the Iraqi (Eye-Rack-EEE in Bush speak) to start standing up and protecting their own people"

England has already hardlined this approach and begun a massive withdrawl of troops. Before or as November hits this will become the cool thing for any US poiltician who is up for re-election / election to say with conviction.
