This is something that makes every "Wow, that's cool!" circuit light up in my brain, but kind of makes me worry about having Elephants tipping over my trash cans.

A Plan For Reintroducing Megafauna To North America (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/10/061002154043.htm)

Yup... it's kinda nice to dream. Sorta like a tamer version of Jurassic Park.

I'd give a lot to see a giant sloth.

Wow...stuff like this is why people laugh at environmentalists.

If they let me hunt them, I would support it.

I would donate most of the meat to The Poor™. Imagine how many pots of elephant stew one could make.

Come on now, where is the challenge in hunting a sloth? I guess setting up in a blind waiting for one to wander by would be a challenge, but the kill shot would be cake. Besides, I doubt sloth would taste that good being all moldy on the outside.

We have Oryx roaming the missile range because of a similar plan. They do quite well.

I am told there used to be some giraffes. There were some camels left over from when Fort Bliss tried camels for cavalry. I haven't seen any giraffes or camels myself.

We should populate the deserts with Meerkats... because... they're SO CUTE!

Just be very careful with introducing species new to the area. You can ask the Australians how well it worked out with the camels, the rabbits, the dogs, the cats (to hunt the rabbits), and so on.

I know. Its just that they're SO cute! And they eat bugs. 2 very good things.

We've had a few problematic species ourselves: Kudzu, those fuzzy mammals in the south (Starts with Nu I think). And there's some sea creatures from aquariums that are wreaking havoc.

Elodea is wreaking havoc in the Mediterranean Sea right now, it came from some bucket biologists fish tank.

Nutria? Yeah, they've pretty well taken over all the muskrat habitat around here. They were brought in after we humans nearly killed all the beavers off in our desire for beaver coats. They were trapped and their pelts sold as beaver pelts. Too bad the Nutria did a better job at surviving than the beaver did.

Along with kudzu, the Pacific Northwest has the European blackberry problem too. Sit still too long, and you'll be engulfed by the stuff. I'm pretty sure lots of murder victims end up in blackberry thickets. Heck, one of my old landlords found a boathouse with boat still in it, a sauna and a truck on his property when he spent 3 years clearing blackberries from around his house.

Can you eat Kudzu?

I love blackberry pie. And eating them ripe and warm off the vine in August, yum.
