After exhausting their bag of dirty tricks to foster skepticism in global warming, and the Republicans losing, the Energy companies are saying "Uncle".

"We have to deal with greenhouse gases," John Hofmeister, president of Shell Oil Co., said in a recent speech at the National Press Club. "From Shell's point of view, the debate is over. When 98 percent of scientists agree, who is Shell to say, 'Let's debate the science'?"

Right, as if they're going to suddenly turn eco-friendly and stop selling their top money maker. <img src=http://lag9.com/rolleyes.gif>

Sure, they'll be eco-friendly - and ask for various government subsidies to address the issue. :)

It's a pay off. Global warming has always been about funding. Big oil has just decided to pay them and be done with the fight.

Global Warming is going to be BIG business.

If I were trying to open up a completely new industry, one which promises the kinds of profit that this one promises, I would do it exactly they way this is panning out.

Just look at the heating and air conditioning industry, they went kicking and screaming to non-Freon refrigerants, claiming all the same negative things that businesses are screaming and kicking about now.

Now look at them, not only have they embraced the new technologies, they are proponents of them. Because they make money hand over fist compared to just plain ol' Freon.
