Check em out.

Kinda a cross between Evanescence, Leaves Eyes, and Kate Bush.

Soft girly Goth Metalish.

Nice voice.

And don't tell me this is some old band you have been listening to for years. Because if you have, you have not mentioned it to me, here. And if you have known about them for years and have not told me, then you sVck.

So, sorry, known about them for years. Check out Delain as well, Sarah, makes an appearance here and there sometimes, as the keyboardist was the original keyboardist for Within Temptation. Also, appearing sometimes in that project band is some other Euro's staples in that genre like some Nightwish folks, things of that nature.

I find Within Temptation as a more matured metalish group, kinda like kindergoth's, a more laid back sound, they explore more avenues musically, yet often, with some harder sounds occasionally. Have a nice sound, but gets allittle annoying at times, as I prefer the more aggressive sounds of Lacuna Coil(by the way, Lacuna is awesome live, and fun to drink with after the show).

They(W.T.) are about to push to breakout in the states in a big way soon, they just got done in Japan, thinking they are going to do another album push to the states due to the "girl singers in metal bands is popular now". By the way, "Silent Force", their album is great, I really enjoy it, but, can be a pain to find in stores as well as Mother Earth.

Another couple of bands you may or may not have heard of that sound similar, but, more with punk elements, Flyleaf, and a local band in Tenn. Paramore. I will warn you though Flyleaf to me, I just seen them in concert a few weeks ago, I like their music, but, they sucked ass live. Paramore is very energetic, still working on sound a bit, they are teenagers, afterall, but still, nice stuff and were good live.

I will check them out.

Thank you, Pal.

Oh, here is how I found them....

I have been a Kate Bush fan before there were any, and I love this cover.

And I like this one too, notice the river...

that is not an accident, primordial synchronicity there.

I tell you what, Tori is only better because she plays the piano...
Listen to this.

She's just playin and and she rocks. She doesn't even try at it.

myspace.com has some good stuff to search. Most every band in the same genre is easily found there, along with some up and comers like Ghost Orgy(I am not to thrilled about yet), or say december's fall, Sirenia(needs some sound work).

Well, none of my friends have any good stuff with those last two artists.

I will keep looking.

Thanks for the headsup, though.

I know I will catch alot of flack about it, but, Tori Amos was damn good live, and you never quite know what she has in mind for a set the night she plays. She could keep it mellow, she could go techno, or she could just go nuts and rock out. They both have great voices so it is nice to see that cover, thanks for sharing.

Alot of the "older" artists, I tend to like them because it is so much more effortless and makes a great performance. Like say, umm, Christina Aguilera, great voice, alot of talent, but, tries to showboat allittle to much, and comes up allittle lacking, compared to the other women who just rock out smoother and elegant.

No, you won't catch any flack.

But I will tell you a little story...If you don't mind

Years ago, my wife, at the time(ex wife now, of course), bought us two ticket to see her, for my birthday. Nosebleed seats. I'm like this sucks.

So I'm like, Ok, I got some money, I'm going to buy some good tickets..And I do. Third row center. 2Bills a pop. Figure I will sell the suck ass tickets at line or something. Pre Ebay, I guess.

Standing in line. Can't find a single person to take the two tickets off my hands, like 80 bucks worth in 90s money.

So I just hand them to a scalper, and say Good Luck.

Come to find out, that Tori has just gotten back on tour from a 2 week vacation in Mexico. And she is still drunk on Tequilla. She says so during the concert. Drinking Tequilla out of a shoe or something her story went.

She sucked. The concert sucked. She's still Tori and everything, and all. Still sounds better drunk than most singers sober, but I wanted my money back.

This Dutch chick, when I go to see her, she better ****ing sing sober. That's all I got to say. That voice she has, ****ing rocks. And shes hot too, even with that underbite. She is good enough to make my baby.

Haha, sounds like Tori lol. I was lucky enough to catch her on her birthday. She was pretty sober!

I haven't seen Within Temptation yet live, I don't think they played America yet. hehe hate to burst your bubble though.... Sharon married her drummer.....

I'm a fan of Lacuna Coil...never much liked Evanescence...and Nightwish makes me cringe.

Then, I've always been a bigger fan of the old 80's and early 90's goth than the black tape for a blue girl style which ultimately seemed to have spawned the metal atmospheric style. Give me some Skeletal Family, Rubella Ballet, and Christian Death (Rozz era) any day of the week!

Metal + Folk = Goth. I never did quite work that one out, even when I liked All About Eve all those years ago.

Ya, Anka. Ever been to a Jewel(so yes I like alot of different music even the softer side) Concert..... there is a very large section of individuals wearing all black! Or say Vannessa Carlton. Kinda like DisneyWorld, that can be interesting as the goths(figuratively speaking) worship the evil queen and bask in her ambient darkness while they call Snow White, to her face no less, a virginal, goody two shoes whore, amongst other clever, witty sayings.

I blame Joan Jett and the Blackhearts for opening the door allittle bit towards that side!

I'll second (third?) the Lacuna Coil recommendation, though I've never had the chance to see them live, let alone go drinking with them!

(Hmm, searching allmusic.com I found the compilation "Beauty in Darkness, Vol. 5" included both a song by Within Temptation and one by Lacuna Coil. I don't recognize any of the other groups aside from Amorphis, but that series of albums might give you some more bands to look into.)

Kinda a cross between Evanescence, Leaves Eyes, and Kate Bush.

I am not sure I get the Kate Bush reference, other than she is a soprano too.
And technically you should say that Evanescence is like Within Temptation, not the other way around :)

Soft girly Goth Metalish.

That depends to a large extent on which album of theirs you are listening to!
They have three out so far.

Enter - This is their debut album and traditional metal/goth. Complete with the soprano and grunt vocals mix. Of the three this is the least produced, but musically the more interesting. Interesting songs include: Restless, Enter, Gatekeeper and Candles. Gatekeeper is typical grunt, Candles is heralding their later songs.

other Earth - Songs on this album move away from the typical goth fare and more towards their own sound. Thematically the album leans heavily towards the Wiccan side. Still relies heavily on the typical band instruments and Sharon's vocals (grunt vocals are pretty much absent). Interesting songs include: Mother Earth, Never-ending Story, Our Farewell and Caged. Deceiver of Fools is worth mentioning but is not to everybody's liking. The best song on the album is Ice Queen (they conclude every life performance with it).

The Silent Force - You are most likely to get your hands on this one. It is heavily produced (or over-produced) and every song is filled with Vocals, instruments, orchestra and chorus pretty much to the bursting point. Not much goth and very little metal left, but a very appealing sound (though not progressive or alternative anymore). Interesting songs from this album include: See Who I am, Stand My Ground, It's The Fear. Pale is an emotional song that may or may not appeal to you. Jillian is another like/dislike song.

There is a DVD available of a life concert they did in Amsterdam as part of the European tour: The Silent Force Tour. It contains songs from all three albums, though focussing on the last one of course. It should give an impression of the kind of show you can expect (though as with all life albums lately the sound -is- doctored afterwards so do not expect something quite as smooth. The band does perform well life).

Nice voice.

That is undeniable.

And don't tell me this is some old band you have been listening to for years. Because if you have, you have not mentioned it to me, here.

I would have, if I had known you were interested.

Other bands not yet mentioned that might be of interest to you then:

The Gathering (another Dutch band, a bit Within Temptation 'light' with a little less polish).
Tristania
Epica
Knight Area
Ixion (this is progressive rock and concept albums though so do not expect anything easy to listen to. It also is not a professional band so it lacks the polish and perfection, but especially Talisman contains some nice songs as well as an interesting concept.)

With the exception of Tristania those might be hard to get your hands on though. Especially Ixion as it is self-published and can only be ordered on the internet. For the US it can be bought through www.kinesiscd.com)

There are some internet radio stations that have many bands that you can request songs from. It may be worth having a look at those to find new bands.

And if you have known about them for years and have not told me, then you sVck.

Only my husband, thankyouverymuch

Sharon married her drummer.....

Gives me hope.

The guy looks like an ape, and is not all that great of a drummer.

And I just got one video, "Concierto 40 TV 2005 by Rinoa". Lipsynch. f that, too bad.

Here is a newish band I have been listening to, Damone. Has a very nice poppy punk sound. Pretty catchy. They have a nice cover of everybody wants you. Neat sound, kinda like Joan Jett, with a newer more aggressive sound. Sounds older but, yet new lol, if that makes sense.

Wow...where the hell have I been. I had no idea one of my favorite bands of old decide to make some more music...well, at least the lead of one of my favorite bands.

Heh, I was pleasantly surprised to see Fields of the Nephilim came out with an album last year...they were always one of my favorite bands, and would pretty much be what I consider the groundwork for this symphonic/ethereal goth-metal sub-genre.

While the new album isn't quite the same or as good as their old ****, its still pretty well.

an, now I have to go dig up my The Nephilim CD...wtf is it?

Found another interesting band in this Genre. Called the Kidney Thieves kinda interesting because the lead singer is somewhat of a psychologist so she adds alot of psycho babble in her lyrics. Kinda trance metal... Similar sound to say White Zombie's Astrocreep vibe with a chick singer.

The Kidney Thieves had a great song on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack...but when I bought the full album that song was from, I was less than impressed...but its been a few years, I may have to give them another listen.

hmm never heard of fields of nephilim... I might check em out.

Within Temptation's new album, "The Heart of Everything" is coming out March 12 their new single "what have you done now" is out already. It features Keith Caputo and is abit aggressive, which I myself like. And they are touring Europe, but, keep talking about tourng the States.

Also, Lacuna is touring in March at a city near you with Stonesour(pretty decent, project band from some guys in slipknaut).
