Put American muslims in concentration camps? (http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD/MGArticle/RTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1149192318113)

US Congressman stirs up **** because first Muslim Congressman wants to be sworn in on a Koran. He's equating this American born muslim with immigration. :p What a doofus. Ignorance combined with biogtry, sounds like we're back to the 1950's. Good going, Virginia.

It just goes to show that if you name your kid "Virgil" and saddle him with a "Jr." you virtually guarantee he's going to be a complete asshat.

lol, I live in VA. While it is a crazy place I pretty much ignore most of the nuts. Not saying that's good but I try to keep to myself. Remember, there is a huge gap between say Southern VA and what you might just as well call Northern VA/DC/MD. Anyone near DC prolly works there and are just in VA or MD because they have to live somewhere. It's really just the big melting pot here. And it is really melting. I'm supprised anything ever gets done here and more supprised things aren't worse here. But 1 1/2 hour commutes to almost anywhere (and all the cell phone drivers) pretty much keep you too busy to notice.

The rider pick-up points on 66 that allow drivers to pick up additional passengers so that they can use the HOV lanes are kinda cool. I'm surprised that that hasn't caught on in more places.

They are good but overall not much of an impact. Metro here just isn't the best, or as good as it should be to be a real factor either.

But for me, as many others, neither the ride programs or the metro are an option. They wouldn't help me in my current work commute needs.

But it's also true that just too many of us are spoiled and just want to drive ourselves for the 'freedom' factor. So the metro would have to be vastly improved to overcome that. I would love to ride the metro to work. But it would have to be a bit more convienient.

I used to love the metro when I lived just north of DC near Bethesda. I agree though, they need to extend it further out into the burbs and add some additional spur routes in order to make it accessible to more people.

/chuckle

That was funny.

I am ambivalent about carpool lanes, actually.

Usually, out here, they are just used by some breeder soccer mom, in her H2, that her husband bought for her, so she can transport her spawn all over town.

Not really the intended purpose, which was to decrease the numbers of cars on the roads.

Now if you charged her extra to use the fast track real estate under her 3000 dollars worth of tires, it might work out cool.

Or you could use the real estate for putting in a light rail commuter system. Which would serve exactly the intended purpose.

You could actually have one stretch of highway doing one, to subsidize the other.

There is no shortage of idiots. Rep. Goode has the right to say what he thinks. His constituents put him in office, they can take him out if they think he embarasses them.

One Virginian Representative is not be representative of millions of citizens of Virginia, just as one radical Muslim strapping a bomb to his chest is not representative of millions of practitioners of the Muslim religion.

However both are what the media is going to show you, because news stories about tolerant congressmen and peaceful Muslims don't sell newspapers or boost cable ratings.

Muslims don't vote for suicide bombers. His statements are representative of the majority of voters in his district, a large part of Virginia.

It would be sort of silly if they did. I mean, their representation would last all of one day.

You know... I just learned that the name given to the Scottish meant "terrorist" in some language. Heh! No wonder I'm always fighting the urge to strap on a bomb.
