If you were victimized as I was by that patch (May 8, or somewhere around there), and had to turn off your sound to be able to play...

*CAUTION, this part is just what happened to me after the patch*

I downloaded the patch. I had no problems getting all the way to the character selection window. I hit Enter World, and my screen went blank, and just sat there. I waited for about 10 minutes (after rebooting two times) on my final shot. I tried I think it was 3 times to get in. I went to the chat area. What I found was a WHOLE bunch of people have the same, and very similar, problems as I was. After adding that I had the same problem, someone said to turn my sound card off. I did that, and was able to log in to the game. Every response I got from SoE employees, was trying to convince me that something was wrong with my computer. I gave the same argument that everyone else did, 'How come I had absolutely 0 problems until I downloaded the patch then?' No answer for that. I figured all I had to do was reinstall the sound card driver, or get an updated one. What I wanted to happen, was for SoE to answer my message left for them on the Online Tech Support after hours mailbox. At least, they could have said we changed this and this (whether it was a mess up or intentional), and this is what you need to do to regain full play ingame. This never happened. I had waited for 30 minutes online to talk to one of their techs. Finally get one, he redirected my browswer to their video download page. I downloaded the video driver to humor him, and it automatically rebooted my computer. This didn't work, and the tech wasn't paying attention to what I told them to begin with. I didn't have time to wait for another tech, as I had to go to work. When I got home, I left a message in their after hours mailbox. I still have NOT received any word from them.

*END my whining*

All I did, was reinstall the same sound card driver I had before.

If that doesn't work, then search for an updated one, and install that.

I put this on here, because I have talked to people in the last month that were having the same, or similar, experiences as I was. Hopefully if there is anyone left, this will be of some help.
