Most homes have the double sink version (for making dishwashing easier) but I've always been partial the single large sinks. There's just something really cool about a large tub where you can wash plates and babies with the same panache.

Nah, have to have the double sinks so you can stack dirties on one side and still have a clean side to fill up drinks, rinse off stuff or whatever ;p

I'm with Kineada...I rarely use "the other side" except for storage of dirty dishes when the counter is full. I'd much rather have a big, deep kitchen sink - hand washing clothes is impossible without iit, my cutting board doesn't fit in the sink to wash it, so I always get water everywhere and it would be so much easier for my big pots and pans (you know, momma mia cooka spaghetti for an army size pans) to soak if I had a big sink.
y folks do high-end residential design and build - here's who they usually use:

I really like the way some of those farm house sinks look. I think I could adapt my way of doing dishes if I had one of those babies!

I really love stainless steel sinks and counters. They're easy to clean, and look great!
Also, in the sinks, when you drop that delicate glass/crystal while hand washing, stainless steel gives just that little bit more that makes things break less than porcelain does.

Titanium finish is actually a lot better than stainless steel. Stainless steel actually fingerprint's very badly, keeping it spotless is really a lot of work. That's actually one of the reasons they're used in restaurants - it's easy to tell if a surface is really clean or not.
y theory for a sink is one deep for soaking, one middle shallow for the disposal, and one semi-deep for scrubbing.

For me, I associate stainless steel sinks with apartment living. Seems like they always had 'em.
check 'em out!

Stainless does not chip either.

When I was a kid, our kitchen had stainless steel counters and sinks. It's probably 35 years old now, and still looks great. My brother and I must have done hundreds of projects on it.... yet there wasn't much I could do to hurt it.
I can't imagine my linoleum plastic whatever looking that good after 35 years, much less tile with grout.

I associate stainless with waterspots. :p
Fancy countertops are granite or some kind of fabricated stuff these days.

It's funny how strong my positive associations from my childhood with the fun we had on those counters will always affect my feelings about counters.

Those are really cool memories, Aquila. =)
If money's not an issue, granite all the way. Wears like stainless, looks like precious gems.
If money's still not too bad, Corian (with a built in seamless Corian sink). My folks installed this in their kitchen - nearly impervious to anything, super easy to clean.
I wouldn't want tile either - at least, not 3"x3" tile (ugh, all that grout) - tho I did help select some beautiful 10"x10" "desert red" tile for a friend's kitchen once. Backsplash was this gorgeous 1"x1" handmade blue irasdescent glass tiles - looked like shimmering water and beautiful against the muddy red.

you can aquire a sink, i know not from whom, that has 'both sides'... but in which one side is say twice as wide and deep as 'the other side'.
my mother has one like this, after getting her kitchen remodeled... at first i thought it was the dumbest contraption known to man, but after visiting for a few holiday meals and cleaning up thereafter, i actually started to consider it a decent layout.
i'll never get used to the idea of giving a baby a bath in the sink, though... that just seems alien to me. i'll throw the cat in it for a few cackles, but not a baby!

Hey, I used to get baths in the big old sink in the garage when I was a kid! And my mom would wash my hair in it when I got bigger. That thing was enormous.
