CA's so screwed up already, what's the deal if you choose someone with little to no previous political experience for governor? Can't be much worse that what they've already had. Mine as well pick someone who's charismatic to further screw up the state.

My whole reasoning behind voting for Davis is that someone lacking that much charisma must really have something on the ball. I'm not sure that reasoning held up.

There's two schools of thought:

1) The experienced politician.
They know how to get things done. They are experienced at negotiating, making deals to get legislation passed and working with the political machinery. Of course, that's the problem too. They have to do favors in return.

2) The outsider.
They lay claim to the fact that they have no special favors to anyone so they can do what they damn well please. However, they don't have the network or know how things get done like the experienced politician does. In fact, they'll probably be relying heavily on experienced politicians to get anything done. So their claim to no special interests or favors isn't going to be valid for long.

p.s.
I voted for the Green party candidate in the last CA gubernatorial (goobernatorial?) election because he was super cute - long, blond hair, very California surfer/tree hugger boy.

Actually he has been involved in a lot of things. He is just smart enough to keep out of the public eye on most things.

I don't think he will screw things up any more than they are. There really are very few people that most would say are qualified running anyhow...considering there are 135 people running. I'm not saying he will be great, but I don't think he will be any worse than other govenors have been.

Chenier, what does you thinking they are cute have to do with how well they can do anything to run a state?

Hehe, the rest of the world is already rofling on this.

Arnold isn't even able to talk well or intelligent in his own languange (german or austrian). In Germany, Austria, Switzerland he is considered to be a super low brainer and now, forgive me this, "stupid" americans want him to rule one of their states.

Go Arnie, go! We europeans wanna see you becoming president of the US soon!

I don't think anyone in Germany or Austria can say much the wisdom of anyone's governmental choices...

I know for fact Arnold won't be as bad as a certain other famous Austrian.

Not that I really care, I don't live in Cali. If the Californians really want to do something about their problems, they'll invade Texas and lower the damned jacked up prices the Republicans are charging them for power.

And build some bloody power plants of their own in Cali.

Aidon for Gov!!!! I like the idea of invading Texas. :p Except, they'd pwn us. They sell guns and liquor in the same stores. We haven't a chance against that!

Hehe, your point. Right, we had our fair share of austrian Governators.

Found an interesting link: Japanes Arnie Commercials (http://www.japander.com/japander/schwarz.htm)

aybe he's clever, but i can't imagine any foreign statesman is able to take him serious. Just look at the picture with him eating noodles. ;)

Sounds like the Euros are just jealous because Arnold had wild sex orgies in the back of Gold's Gym in the 70's.

Lay off Arnie. After all, like he said, deciding to run for Governor was the most difficult decision he had to make since that time he had to get a bikini wax done. I bet all of YOU would fold under that kind of pressure!

I live in CA and I think it's long past time this place just fell into the ocean before its re-annexation by Mexico, which should be complete in another few years.

The fact is that if CA tried to invade Texas, Texas would have retaliated and annexed CA before the Californian government could decide whether they would defend themselves or not. I don't think it'd be a bad thing though - we'd get to kill off all those "holding hands for peace" hippy-types who got in the way. The Conservative Right half of California probably has more in common with Texas politics than not.

Well, since CA is one of the largest economies in the world... I think we could hire a few other states to do the actual fighting with Texas. :P

I am joking, fyi. I know how touchy you Texans get.

CA is $27 billion in debt, they couldn't hire anyone - no one would trust them to get paid back.

Chenier, what does you thinking they are cute have to do with how well they can do anything to run a state?

Because it's more interesting than their politics. (I didn't for Davis, he won and screwed up the state...what if the cute guy had won?!)

I'm voting for whomever is going to repeal the 300% car registration hike...cuz like...I don't want to spend my entire federal tax refund to pay for my car registration.

caveat: I have very few feelings about politics. I think this whole thing is a hoot.

Compared to the national debt, it's a drop in the bucket! We're coming for ya, Texas! Rather, they're coming for you. We're hiring Illinois, Michigan and Rhode Island to attack you! Ok, we didn't really want Rhode Island, but we had budget issues.

If we're gonna hire some roughnecks, can we at least make sure they're rough?

You met many folks from Illinois (outside of Chicago)? Pretty peaceable folk.

I'm thinking Massacheeeewits. Those people are nuts and if they don't smack you around enough, they'll make your ears bleed by speaking.*

*omg, I am SO just kidding. =) Please, put the gun down. Please?

Panamah

I figured with Chicago and Detroit we'd be good. Hmmm... good point though! But we'd have to increase the budget deficiet quite a lot... they're expensive.

Rhode Island is fired!

aybe we can hire some Balkan peasants for real cheap too. They seem to do good against vampires and such.
