Geez, maybe I'm over the hill, but c'mon already!

I fondly remember going to concerts in my younger days. I'd be out in the crowd watching Chicago, Alice Cooper, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Guess Who and others. Inevitably there's be a slow song where the audience would flick on lighters and sway them back and forth to the music. It was great.

Last night I was at a Brad Paisley concert. The concert was good but during that inevitable slow song, did folks bring out lighters?? No... they took out their friggin' illuminated cell phones and swayed them back and forth!! What the h...? Cell phones?? Sheeesh!!

:ohwell:

I think I went to gigs in the days before they held the lighters aloft.

The anti smoking campaign, helped out alot. Amongst the cell phone craze, more on that in a second. Still, on occasion, we break out the lighters or at least I do, but, more often than not the mighty cell phone is largely the weapon of choice for the majority of concert goers nowadays.

Often, people will record video as well with their phones, much to the dismay of some artists I talk to before and after the show. Also, taking flash pictures with their cameras, seems to annoy alot of artists as well, especially at the no photography shows and no video shows.

On one memorable occasion, earlier in the year, I went to see Jewel in concert, at a small venue for her to check out some new material for her upcoming album, and crowd reaction to the material. She was doing a solo acoustic number, and more than one cell phone was going off at the same time, to which mid performance, whispered, please turn off your cell phones. While, humorous it was rather annoying at the same time.

We've been waving various electronic devices instead of lighters for many years at the engineering school where I went to college. :P

Hehe I went to a concert a couple weeks ago and they started playing a slow song and the artist actually said, "Alright, lets see those cell phones."

cell phones don't burn your fingertips or the hair of the hot girl in front of you.

On a separate note:

Why would anyone go to a Brad Paisley concert in the first place?

Wife faction. I had no idea who Brad Paisley was when I went. :ohwell:

The opening act was a hot 17-year old nubile chick though. Taylor Swift (or something like that). I didn't much care for the other opening act... someone called Rodney Adkins (sp?).
