OW! I really just need to rant about pain right now. You what what the really bad part of pain is? It hurts! Yes! Pain hurts! Some pain even hurts a lot! Like the pain of having a wisdom tooth yanked out. Ow! Why didn't they tell me when I set foot in the dentists office that I was going to experience some excruciating pain in 45 minutes after the novacaine wore off?

So instead, I go to the local pharmacy to fill my prescription for painkillers while the novacaine is starting to wear off. 25 minutes they said. Meanwhile I get to wander around, exploring the new depths of this pain. I would think. Ok, this has to be the worst of it. When I'd swallow and my tongue brushes where my wisdom tooth was. And then I'd realize that the old experience of pain was a mere shadow of what I was now suffer.

So, I'm in my local Sav-On trying to make my 25 minutes go faster by looking at the fascinating assortment of flip-flops, ugly hawiian print shirts and polyester house dresses. This didn't help a bit. Somehow ugly hawiian prints just make pain much, much worse.

Now I'm wonder just when this Vicodan stuff is going to kick in. So far it seems pretty minimal. Just what does one do when the predominant thought occupying 95% of your brain is "OW!".

And to think... I have 3 more wisdom teeth. /cry And I have to go under to have those removed because... 2 of them are sideways.

Ok, here it comes... a very bad curse word to express myself.

DAMN! THAT HURTS!

You just deal with it. Don't use more drugs than they say to. Keep your tongue on the inside of all teeth at all times. That way, if you get a jolt, you hopefully don't bite your tongue on top of everything else.

Really nice dentist. He called me at home this evening to see how I was doing. /boggle! I mentioned the pain was so bad the vicodin wasn't touching it. He suggested adding a couple aleve to the mix. And it really worked! I'm feeling much better.

That's good man. A lot of people are miserable for a week or more. Make sure you follow their directions as best you can. I never got it, but I hear dry socket is a b#$%^

Ugh, just read up on it. He didn't mention I should stay away from carbonated beverages. I had a couple yesterday. Sugar free, but still...

I feel fully recovered. I think I'm past the dry-socket danger point. I always wondered what it was, so I looked it up on the Internet. Then I lived in fear for days that I'd get it.

Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss.

He didn't tell you about carbonation? Oh man, the first thing they told me both times I went in for wisdom teeth. No carbonation, and no smokeing.

So, I get back from the dentist, grab a pepsi and smoke a cigarette. I just made sure to gently rinse the gaping new wholes in my head out with water constantly. I definitely drank less soda and smoked less, but I still did it. I probably would have healed a lot faster if I hadn't, but it's a bit late to worry now.

Glad you're feeling better...even if you do follow me around the board making fun of me :P

Follow you!

Hey, they told me not to rinse my mouth out either. That the rinsing/spitting thing was bad for a few days.

Oh well, we both survived!

I have 3 more that have to go... but I'll be knocked out for those, fortunately!

Ya, that's why I said gently. What you're doing is just putting some water in your mouth, and moving your head left and right...slowly. It doesn't do much for rinseing. I'm sure it does some, but not much. I did it more just to get moisture in there.
