It's been quiet for weeks. Too quiet.

I stop by occasionally and see if anyone has posted anything interesting. Usually not, so I forge on.

Same for me I fear. It seems the more argumentative members have left or stopped arguing so much.
I do admit that I had started writing less before the great blackout already, because I felt it was getting a bit repetitive. Maybe I am part of the problem then (because I wrote less others argued less with me and I and others responded even less, and so on ...)

That would sum up my reasons too. I just pretty much knew everyone's position and what they'd say so it became a little dull.
oving the forum around and taking it down for awhile probably didn't help either.

I wish I was around to prevent that from happening.

It seems like all of the most prolific posters left at about the same time. I thought that maybe there had been a meltdown that I'd missed but I couldn't find any evidence of one. It's true, though, that after years of debating here I pretty much knew what positions people would take on issues.
I've done a bit of debating in various blogs/groups in other places and one thing that has become abundantly apparent is that the debaters here on the Grove are one hell of a lot smarter than the ones I've met elsewhere.

I gotta say, $4000 to keep a message forum running is huge. Does it really need to be that expensive are there bells and whistles that don't really need to be there?
Oh ok, I read the thead that was linked and understand more now.
It's tough to be a class site nowadays. I gotta say.

Yea, well a bill was a bill. But its all spilled milk now. I think we are just going to throw it on a VPS. If the site is unreachable, it's unreachable. Trying to please everyone is over. I do think it was sad for people to leave during the Grove's time of need. I also think it was a poor move to close it down.
Btw, anyone remember ezboard? It was almost that amount to keep the site add free 4 years ago....Sometimes it just adds up. It's good to get a kick in the ass as a wake up call time and again.

No kidding? I didn't realize EZBoard had gotten that expensive.

That's why we moved to our own server from Ezboard to begin with. The funny thing was 4 years later we ran into the same problem. Didn't learn our lesson I guess.

I'm still here. Sorta.
I still play EQ tho I've switched my main to my Enchanter. My druid is botted for ports, extra healing on raids and healing my charmed pet when I solo stuff. Not a very glamorous role for old Trevize but SoE really has left the druid behind in making them a useful grouping class. Aside from being botted he's good for reverse swarm charm kiting in LP, but that becomes tedious quickly. Good for a quick lesson burn tho.

Well, funnily enough, my main in WoW is a druid. Used to be a rogue but I felt like rogues were being shafted in BC.
Even funnier... I'm in a raiding guild. Although we're pretty casual about raiding we do raid about 3x a week.

I stopped reading the board and I missed the Grove's shut down. It is too bad that it go so expensive to run the board.

I am still here, hell more like I am back, but I do admit its been quiet even now.
I have tried to add what I can as I learn more of what I missed in my absence as a recent returner. For those that dont know I was the original moderator of "the Ring" back in the day - Sobe references it in his post about the "whys" and costs of running this site. I dont have access to that by the way if it still exists! :p
I also was the owner of EQGuide.com - well I still own it, but its been down and will stay down. I was never as popular as Allas and some of the others at the time in pure traffic volume but I got enough traffic that it became too costly for me to continue. I tried ads, a little here and there, but they were worthless vs my expenses to run the site. No forums, just information and that alone drove the costs too high. Add in a forum and the constant checks and refreshes for new posts and it would have been ridiculously expensive.
Anyway, I am hoping people will come back. Crucible scares me :) but if not I will just end up being a nonposter and lurker whereever there is information I need to find. Hopefully that ends up being back here again. Until the Grove closes or I quit playing again, this will always be my home and is the only place I post besides my own guild's forums.
