This was brought up over on the RTA boards and I thought it would be a fun thing to bring up over here. Do any of you even remember the last one they had.... On the Rathe I can only think back to last Halloween where the werewolves invaded West Commons.
Did Sony just flush GM events down the crapper to $tormhammer once they bought the franchise from Verant? Or have some of you actually seen them on the K-Mart servers, more recent then Halloween though.
They added another dimension to the game and they were quite fun to partake in. The best one was in Freeport where you joined a guild (two sides, I believe one for good and one for evil races but who knows, it was sooo long ago) then war was declared!!!!! Very fun stuff!
They have them ALL the time on Ubi servers...Were also having a last man standing thing atm really cool.
GMs there own. Like being on Stormhammer without the stupid costs. (yea i know we dont get those zones and stuff)

A few GM driven events happend when frogs kicked the trolls out of ther hometown.
Personally i have never seen a GM Event in my EQ life.
Anyone remembering the great hype on the big upcoming war on Norrath? Dozens of storyline elements and finally nothing happend. Zillions of disappointed players left with nothing.
Since Stormhammer went live the GM Event counter is close to zero.

Well, the only ones I remember other than Xmas and Halloween were:
The DE war with the raid on HHP to open Kith forest to the undead at night.
The Majoung Mistmoore event that lead up to the release of Kunark.
The stroll around Skyfire with Fiorna Vie. Don't remember what that lead up to.
The Troll War vs the Frogs.. I must have killed a couple hundred Trolls that night..
Can't really remember anything but think something happened when they opened up Fear and Hate planes. I was only in my 30's at that time so didn't attend that.

As some other thread eluded to GM events seem to have been replaced by pocket zones.
The main problem with GM events as I remember them was this scenario 69.57.151.222/archive.html?76?#16 (http://69.57.151.222/archive.html?76?#16)
ie. People zerging the event from all over Norrath (and beyond) and spoiling it for those it was intended for.

P.S. yes I couldn't help posting something that required the use of WTF comics to make my point :)

Remind me again... what's a gm?
And you say a "gm event?" Sounds.... odd.. I suppose it could be EQ folk lore. Like wearing a full suite of Black Iron armor makes you immune to magic!
Well, ok in all seriousness. I've seen this GM you speak of on Drinal
1 - once to fix my guild when we were bugged and had 3 guildleaders at the same time and counldn't invite or remove anybody....
2 - once to fix the Ogre glog blocking the entrance to Emp. =D. Screen Shots are priceless for that one. /wave Madrone =D
The rest were all Fennin Ro or Mith Marr with Xave and Lili, the best GM's ever.

I actually bumped into a GM event on Xev a few months back when they were testing their NPC control mechanics (I assume). We were out in Oasis of Marr buying spells when a High Elf Princess of some description asked for help navigating to the docks in EFP. It was kinda fun "escorting" her (along with several other players) to the docks. She asked us for some specific items and would reward us with a gem or such if we could fill the request. As I recall, she eventually took the boat and poofed.
Not terribly exciting, but it was kinda neat to know that this was not "ordinary" and the loot was pretty good for a low level character.
Other than that, haven't seen/heard of much on Xev recently.

They seem a lot more frequent in the past year or so than any time since release. The problem is they are automated so without actual GM control on each server they have been kind of silly.

There have been a few on Karana in the past few months I belive, but I never managed to make it to them to confirm if they were real or not due to being on a raid at the time.

If GM events are gone for good it can only be a good thing. I really don't see how anybody can think that "slaughter newbies until enough high-levels get organized to kill the big mob" events can be fun, especially when the reward is pretty much always either lame or non-existant.

There was a GM event on Povar on 8/4 I believe. I don't remember the exact day, but I received a set of shoulders that was something along the lines of ac15 13 wis 50 mana. The GM was posed as a mage pet that had broken free of his master and wanted a pet of his own. He just wanted you to obey his commands. Pretty easy event. They also disabled spell casting while in the zone too.

Allmost NO GM events are organised this way. It's the players themselves who cause the problems. The GM events I've particpated in (3-4) have never involved slaughtering nebies and the high levels were usualy the ones ruining the event by trying to attack the NPC's for the hell of it.
I can point specificaly to a GM event which I participated in and won which involved ZERO combat. It was to open the nexus portal in Dreadlands the day before Luclin went live. Some gnome was trying to get people to help him rescue his master. He posed some riddles to the players to find the smartest ones and then we prerformed some ritual magic to summon his master back. When we completed the ritual Al'Kabor showed up very upset about having his research interrupted but calmed down once he realised the gnome was behind it. That's when the storms started in Dreadlands and we had to perform another ritual at the end of it make them stop. He then thanked us for the help in stoping the weather problems and took the fusability ore we used to summon him to make us some nice neck items and granted each of the four players involved the title "Of The Nexus" in the place of their last name.
No killing, no maming of newbies. Just riddels and questions about the history of Norath based on information that had been posted on Sony's website for months. All in all it was a pretty fun event.

Gosh, I only remember 2 GM events, both were when I was on Prexus.
The first one was the big Halloween week event (I wanna say in WC, EK and RM?). It sucked because 40 thousand people were in the zone killing and KSing everything in sight, but I did get that pretty good druid belt which I wore a long time (Girdle of the Holy Wanderer - can't believe I remembered it!).
The other event I remember was in Great Divide and Dreadlands. Big swarms of ogres and stuff in the port in valley. I just happened to be passing through, ported in and was killed in 2 seconds. Needless to say, I was pissed. Had to come back via BW, fetch my corpse and find a nice cleric who was rezzing.
I did hear about an amazing GM event, just for a single group (was an ex-guildie of mine who did it). My friend happened across this gnome in Iceclad yelling that he needed to get to Siren's Grotto but that he was afraid to teleport and could someone lead him there. The GM was allowing for a group to lead him and fight whatever was necessary across Velious. My friend said it was amazing and one of the best times he had in game. He said the GM was totally cool and really role played it the whole way. When they finally got to SG, the GM gave them all Tink Bags...totally cool.

FYI: On $tormhammer we have an average of 3 GM events a day. They usually happen morning 8am PST, afternoon 1pm PST, and Night 9pm PST. Rarely are the events automated. In fact sometimes it takes multiple GMs to run an event. These are usually the most interesting. I highly recommend if you enjoy a chance to Role-Play to give $tormhammer a try. However if you think that GM events are about Loot and Killing NPCs don't bother.
The interesting thing is that when Legends service was first introduced they said that they would create multiple servers to service the demand. I guess the demand just wasn't there. Which surprises me because the amount of money I pay for legends is a bargain when you consider the hours of entertainment I get out of it.

About 2-3 weeks ago, the 7th hammer ended up with a battle between Humans, Evils, and the Short ****s....10x your level in plat to enter...short ****s hid behind the pillar in the Arena and made out with like 3k in plat each. Friggin asslings >.<
Only other GM events I remember while PLAYING EQ:
Trolls vs Frogs.
Maylong Mistmoore pre-Kunark
Lanys T'val and the opening of Kithicor to Undead
Goods vs Evils and the supposed war coming to Norrath
Firiona Vie vs. Rallos Zek in FV
Halloween
Human Chess in Butcherblock between Tunare and Karana (lol, I was a queen...male Druid, my team won each about 50 plat somehow..) Was the funnest one I was in :p
Finally, who could forget the ever so popular Druid BoTB where I came in 6th...I so wanted my title: "the Wanderer"
