Hi,
I wanted to get you folks input, I'm looking at a new graphics card. I currently have a riva tnt2 39mb card. I want to buy a G4, Ti-4200 td, 128mb ddr, tv/dv out. Is anyone currently using this card? What do you folks think about this card? Will it help with EQ and the lag I get on the moon? You input would be vey helpful.
Thanks,
Noddo

hey, i am using the 4600 version of GeForce4 (the asus model), hopefully i will shed some light on what i have experienced graphics wise (as the 4200, 4400 and 4600 are all similar)

I am running a P4 2gig with 1 gig of memory to go along with this, i have everything on FULL tilt, running XP pro fine tuned (hehe) on cablew modem connecgtion (so you know system setup)

Bazaar: with an average of over 500 people in the bazaar at any one given time, i still get large amounts of lag, just way too much to draw. Solution is to avoid it or turn down your options/turn off models

All other luclin zones (incl jaggedpine): almost lag free (99.9%) of the time, and this is due to the Graphics card more then anything else, I tested my Radeon 7500, Geforce3 card and the new card, the lag difference was huge between the three (all had most up to date drivers, test done 2 weeks ago)

Radeon i had to turn down clipping, graphics to medium and grass off to reduce lag in most SoL zones, Geforce3 graphics had to go down to medium, but was able to keep clip rate full and grass effects off seemed to polish it off nicely (used Twilight sea as the best test, that and Grimling forrest are the most troublesome for me outside of bazaar)

Now a few other notes, even with the new Geforce4 card I still fine slight performance decreases in jagged, just enough to notice, this makes me wonder what the graphics engine was tested on (at last look, while not the top top top of the line, the test platform and best nvidia card were close)

as well, i tested all three of these cards on slower systems (ie: dual p3-733 with 1 gig of ram, p3-1.13 gig 512MB of ram) and found significant decreases in performance.

Final summation: As with any testing of graphics cards this is subjective, i have kept all my testing to identical systems with just swapping the three cards and ensuring latest drivers installed. There are good utilities to test performance on cards, but nothing beats trying it in game. I do recommend the 4xxx series of GeForce4 cards, but do not spend the big $$ on the 4600, go with 4200 or 4400 as the price is much less and from what i have read you will see little performance difference, better to take difference in cost and put into more RAM.

just my 2cp, okay maybe more, but ya know, halflings are passionate folks

I have the G4 4200ti 128mb ddr. I upgraded from the g2 32mb HUGE difference. I get very litte lag in bazaar with all models on clip plane at 0 spell effects off, with models off I get no lag in bazaar at 10% clip plane. Other zones I get very little lag its a good card I give it 2 thumbs up!

The Ti4200 is a very good budget choice right now. As long as you have a reasonably fast CPU (1.4+ Ghz Athlon or 1.8+ P4), 512Mb+ of memory, and you play in no resolution greater than 1024x768, you should not experience frame rate slowdowns (< 30 fps) in regular play, and overall it should be pretty smooth in Luclin. Note that you will still experience frame rate reduction in the Bazaar at full clip plane, however it should be fine at minimum clipping distance. It will certainly be a dramatic improvement over your current card (like 10-fold). I'd suggest looking into Gainward's Ti4200, it's a very nice implementation.
