In PoStorms, the black and red snakes are low level enough to be charmed, and hit hard and fast + a dot. They summon. So, because loroks are forever camped, I tried agro kiting with a pet snake at the zone in frogs. Unfortunately, when both the snake and the frog are snared, the frog stays just out of reach of the snake (frog is higher level, I should have anticipated that), so I have to run in tight circles for the snake to do any damage. All in all, it's just not effective. So, I tried with an unsnared charmed snake. Dangerous, I realize, but I had nothing better to do at the time.;)
The snake never got hit, I called it off when the frog went rampaging to be safe, even though the snake was always at the back of the frog. When I broke charm after the frog was dead to root and recharm the snake, I was summoned. I was always under the impression that damage has to be done to the mob to get summoned, but in this case, no damage was done whatsoever - I was extremely careful of that. Am I just wrong in my understanding of summoning mobs? Or was this just one of those weird things that happens that no one can explain?

I've been summoned a few times for doing no damage. Just the other night I was pulling the forest giants in PoS. I snared once, resisted, snared twice, stuck but got summoned and beat down. So no guarantees that you won't get summoned unless you do damage, though that is the case often.

As for the no-damage summoning, I don't have an answer. I know that damage shields can cause summoning and it's easy to have bladecoat up and not notice the 6pt dmg shield.

As for your circling tactic, try this instead:

'Bonds of Tunare' decreases movement by 65%
'Ensnare' decreases movement by 56%

Use ensnare on your pet, bonds on the target, your pet will chew him up.

people always make the mistake of assuming that a mob will only summon you if you yourself have done damage to it.. it has nothing to do with the damage you did.. the only thing that matters is the mob's health.. if the mob is below 98% (or something like that) it will summon anything it aggros, regardless of how it got the damage..

so if you charm a pet that summons, and send it in to fight, and charm wears off, it will summon you if it's below 98% health.. even though you didn't damage it at all..

hope this helps clear things up :)

Milesgong: In agro kiting the pet takes NO damage, unless you miss a cast or somthing and it gets agro.

A thought: Do summoning mobs ever STOP summoning as they regen health?? If not, it is possible that your snake took some damage and regened without you noticing, OR someone had tried to kill the snake before you charmed it.

This one is kinda baffling. I hope it doesnt discourage you from trying again, it may have just been a fluke.
