I've been doing alot of CoK charming in PoN using blood ravens.

I have gotten my birdie down to the waterfront there killing those Scarlog's (sp, ranger type mobs by the waters edge).

I tried to get my birdie across the water but he just wouldn't seem to go.

Anyone ever had their charmed pet (not DC) get across the water? I was looking to do this so I could agro kite the banshees / wraiths.

EDIT

Is there something funny going on with EZboard again?

The sort is screwed up, some posts made today are towards the bottom, below posts made 2 weeks ago.

The pathing for a mob that's agro'd on you is different than for a mob that is your pet.

Try agroing the raven and snaring it, then going across the water. The bird should chase you. Once the bird gets across to you, charm it there. I've never been to this zone, so that may not work for this situation, but in general that's how to get a charmed pet someplace he normally wouldn't go.

As for the EZBoard sorts, when they get out of line like this it means a thread has been moved. That seems to mess up the sorting for some reason.

The way I do it is to take him to where the waterfall drops to the lower level of PoN. Then send him to attack a slarghilug. Once he makes it down the waterfall and starts attacking I drop down after him. If you are doing this on your own, I suggest that you chain cast charm as he is fighting the slarghilug then ducking to break off the cast at the last second if a re-charm is not needed. This way if your pet does break charm as you are casting, hopefully you only have a second or 2 left until it goes off. Could save your hide :)

After the fight have your pet follow you across the water to the dock. He will disappear under the water. There are MOBs in the water that may agro the pet but it does not happen very often. The trick to keep your pet following you is to stay close to him. This itself is a bit of a problem as you can't see your pet below the water. What I do is slowly cross the water and stop every so often to cast Savage Spirit ( your pet buff ). The spell has a very short casting range so if you get the message that your pet is too far away then you need to backtrack a bit until he is in range again. Then continue to cross the water.

Hope this helps. :)

Just a note, unless your mana regen is high enough that you don't need to med while charming I wouldn't use the chain cast method. But if you're using a horse it sounds like a great idea. :)

The key is to do it slowly, baby steps.

I said:

Quote:
I suggest that you chain cast charm as he is fighting the slarghilug then ducking to break off the cast at the last second if a re-charm is not needed. [/quote]

So, first of all you are not using any mana by doing this and second it is much safer to do this then to med during this one fight. I understand that you are saying that your time would be better spent medding then standing however for this one fight I think a person is better off medding after the fight.... once you have gotten your pet across the river and to a safe spot where you have more room to re-charm if charm breaks.

Just my personal opinion. I always take the "safe" route when I do things. Others are more of risk takers. Each to his/her own. /shrug

Thanks for the tips! I was also having problems getting a pet across the river. To give something back, you don't need to cast savage spirit to make sure your pet is close. Just spam the follow command. If you see the "following" text, the pet is close.

I took a pet over the river a few nights ago. I could do the nettling wraiths and even cleared out the gator by the dock. However, the dock really didn't seem like a great spot for charming. Some of the wraiths path very close, which is a problem when charm breaks. Are there better spots, or do you just make the dock work?

Once you hit the dock .... head left and follow the shore a little then come up the slope ( to avoid more crocs ) and keep going until you come to a plateau / mesa. You can not go up it and if you pull to the mesa it is pretty much a safe spot.

I say "pretty much" because there are gloom nightmares up there and every so often they path close to the edge, agro you and come down to woop yer @#%$ ! If you move a little ways away from the stream along this mesa I think you will be far enough away from the spot that the gloom nightmare paths close to the edge.

I'll have to try that out. I know the spot that you are talking about. Right where the mesa meets the river bed is where groups on my server pull the outdoor hobgoblins. I'll have to see if there is either enough room there for me too or else wait until there is no group. Thanks!

Yes that is the spot.

You can move down a bit from a group in that spot and have plenty of room and I think it would still be a safe spot.

Its not really safe there due to gobby trains, amongst other things. Hedge side is safer(same side as guardians), so is docks to a degree. But plenty of other spots that arent camps that can be turned into one :)

What is the point of different pathing for pets??? Is there a reason behind this? anybody know why they can't use aggro pathing?
