I was just thinking bout efficiency in quad kiting spells. Most any mid/high lvl druid SHOULD at least have mana preservation III. Obulus Death Shroud(sp?) can be found for under 10k these days, and thats a bargain for what you get (10% off mana cost for all spells).

So comparing FoK with KR I got this:

FoK costs 357 mana for aoe blast of 812dmg = ratio 9.0dmg per mana point
KR costs 450 mana for aoe blast of 1100dmg = ratio 9.8dmg per mana point

Now if you take into consideration mana preservation III, which works on FoK but NOT on KR the numbers look like this:

FoK costs 321 mana, ratio = 10.1dmg per mana point.

So if you have mana pres III but not IV, FoK will give you more bank for your mana. FoK casts in 6 seconds, KR in 7. The kite will be a little longer, so I don't know if mobs regen would make this a moot point.

What do ya think?

reasonable..
until you can pick up one of the many mana preservation items that will work with KR.

I think you should get a mage summoned earring and save 8% average mana per cast on Karana's Rage instead of 6% average on Fist of Karana.

Which earing is that?? I was told by a 63 mage that they don't have a mana preservation item.

Jolum's Glowing Bauble.
1-15% off mana cost of all detrimental spells.

Dont forget that Karana's rage will make for a much faster quad so you are medding sooner. This would probably mean from fom > dead quad > fom again is faster with the lvl 62 spell. The only place you really waste mana is if you are using that spell to finish of mobs with only a few hundred hp but thats a different problem.

The other thing to consider in your calculation is that Mana Preservation 3 isn't a fixed 10% savings. It's a random 1-10% per cast which averages out at a 5.5% savings.

I did the math when PoP first came out and found that KR was a slightly better performer even without a MP4 item. That also takes into consideration the fact that you'll be sitting down medding up sooner too.

Let's not forget that with FoM3 you will be critting quite a lot with either spell. The extra damage from a 2200 landing rather than ~1600 will mean an extra 600 dmg to that mob. This may happen numerous times during a quad, sometimes will even happen 2 or 3 times in a single blast. Once this is factored into the equation, KR is far more efficient.

Well....I just don't have the mana pool or regen to quad alone in places like HoH. so I quad with a wizard. To help keep agro on me, so he can nuke also, I have to use our AoE snare "bonds of Tunare".

So, the quicker it goes down, the less mana I spend keeping agro.

But seeing as how I have that item off of grummus that gives 10% reduction in mana on 61+ spells, I win both ways. :)

I use boots of the wind myself. 20 percent mana redux on all detrimentals up to level 65. I still find it better to quad with FoK over KR though without a wizard/chanter partner.

KR seemed to have a higher number of resists than FoK in HoH for me. I'm sure someone can do the math and prove otherwise. But I finished more quadkites with mana left using FoK than I have with KR.
