Early bird theory, I suppose. Rather high priced, but it's a darn nice spell. Maybe they figured a price similar to the CB/NT prices raised up a bit was fair. Not that I agree...but for those without regen bp, this spell has sweet efficiency now.

Scirocco
10-23-2002, 05:57 AM
C'mon, anyone who can actually use the spell and play in PoP should be able to afford a couple hundred plat for a spell.

Some of the common cash loot from the mobs sells for 80 pp or so. Money shouldn't be a problem.

Ellendilh Silvermist
10-23-2002, 06:02 AM
I agree, at 61, 2pp or 200pp makes not difference at all.

It is not like you need to buy several copies of it...

Lvl 61 and up spells seem to all be droppable.

However, our lvl 60 and below spells all seem to be no-drop, like Tiny Companion and Spirit of Ash. Guess they don't have to worry about making lvl 61+ spells no drop, since you can't be lvl 61 w/out PoP.

Batou062671

Harmony of Nature is not belived to be in game yet. It just went on to the test server a couple of days ago and probably got patched over w/out having the scroll in the game (quite like protection of cabbage was 'live' for weeks before the quest that gave the scroll for it went into the game)

Turned in 4 parchments last night to Wanderer Astobin in PoK, received the following

Catastrophe (61)
Hand of Ro (61)
Ro's Illumination (62)
Flight of Eagles (62)

From what I've seen the drop rate on parchment has been seriously nerfed. It was 1:25 before yesterday's patch. After patch, it becomes 1:500 or so.

Raiya

Seriena

1:500 atleast. The drop rate nerf is typical of VI and just plain ridiculous. I've been hunting in PoP since Monday and have yet to see a parchment.

Question.

I understand the scrolls come in different flavors, ie Etheral, Spectral, etc.

Is there any indication that there is a correlation between the parchment type and the level of the spell received?

IE, are there say 5 types of parchments, each one designating a different spell level? Or perhaps 3, with one for level 61-62, another for 63-64, and a third for 65?

Or is it completely random?

Oldoaktree
10-24-2002, 09:27 AM
Answered my own question...shamelessly lifted from linked cleric thread....

Items that you turn in are no-drop but not lore. The results are tradable.
Etherial Parchment seems to get you a level 61-62 spell, and Spectral Parchment a 63-64 spell.
I have gained, so far, Symbol of Kazad, Faith, Tarnation x 2, Greater Immobilize x 2, Sermon of Penitence, Hammer of Damnation x 2, Catastropy, Destroy Undead, Mark of Earth, Petrifying Earth, and Blessing of Reverence x 3.

EDIT - Looking on my own guild's boards I see conflicting information. Spectrals getting you level 62 spells etc. Unfortunate. It would have been better if the scroll did designate a level. There is no way to tell from looking at it that you don't need it. ie, if you get to the point that you ahve all your 61-62 spells (lol riiiiiight), you still could keep getting the same ones and wasting scrolls. This new distribution method is going to have people screaming soon. It makes the spell competition worse than it ever has been in some ways.

What SHOULD be happening is that there really are 3 types of scrolls, that designate specific spell levels. THe lower level parchments should drop most commonly, the mid ones less commonly but still in accessible zones, and the high level ones should be rarest and perhaps drop in deeper planes. The deeper into the planes you go, the more common the higher ones shoudl get. The current system is going to be brutal for the next several months at least.

My entire guild has been grinding exp in PoP zones since official launch, and to my knowledge no one out of the 50 or so players has seen any scrolls.

Scirocco
10-24-2002, 10:12 AM
You don't waste scrolls. The spells they make are DROPPABLE. So don't burn or destroy any spells, for God's sake!

Similarly, anyone who loots one of the turn in drops can do the turn in, then give the spell to the class that can use it.

Oldoaktree
10-24-2002, 10:21 AM
I don't waste them today....heh so far after about 4 hours of exp grinding in PoN I have zero zip none. Nor did anyone in my guild get any over the 6-8 hour period of exp grouping last night in PoN, PoD, PoI, and PoJ. But I will waste parchments in 3 months.

Remember we will all reach a point where we need just one or two spells, perhaps both 65's. At the same time, the peers in our guild will be in the same position, as weill those in similarly leveled guilds on our server.

Say you are trying to get your copy of the 65 cold nuke, and you just got your 17th copy of Flight of Eagles. The time before you got your 23rd copy of Replenishment (vendor sold). Not even the twinks in yoru guild need that scroll any more and they sell in bazaar for 200pp because everyone else has ALSO gotten 17 of them.

Meanwhile you looted that scroll and got the crap old spell when the SK in your group maybe has 12 spells still to get since the casters tended to get the parchments sooner.

That parchment was just wasted.

It is not a fiction. This is a matter of time. Getting the last spells is going to suck BIG TIME. Some of the trades will definitely be more rare than others.

If I coudl tell just by looking that a scroll could not possibly get me a spell i need (ie I have all my 61-63 and this parchment is good for 61-62 spells) I don't have to roll or merit on it.

Gonna be some classes that have 8 billion copies of common spells trying to get their needed high level rares while other classes starve because they kindly let that cleric or shaman or even druid get a shot first since as primary casters we rely on spells more.

Gonna be bad...matter of time...no doubt in my mind whatsoever.

What about combinations of what parchments drop in a specific plane?

Like only parchments from PoD, PoN get you 61-62

PoJ, PoI gets you 62-63?

/shrug, I have no clue as our guild hasn't seen a drop yet.

Sglanton33
10-25-2002, 04:35 AM
Dont the parchments ONLY drop off named?
All the mobs I have killed in PoD and PoN, and the only parchment I have seen was off the named in PoD, Rallican Ratticus (or something like that) in the cave to the left of zone in.

If they make lvl 61-65 spells this hard for EVERYONE, it will be ages before people get theirs...
I have yet to have a lvl 61 spell.. (not that our 61 spells are anything to /cheer about)

Both parchments acquired before yesterday's patch.

Fayne Dethe
10-26-2002, 12:23 AM
PoJ the day of release was dropping a ton of spells, now you can go hours without getting a single spell. The only spells my guild has gotten have been off minibosses - we got one off the spider queen miniboss in PoD. I wasnt around for the 2nd spell drop, but I believe it was the Junk Beast from PoI.

With this method of spell being a random reward and the fact it can result in a storebought spell, I think the scroll drop rate needs to be upped considerably. Level 61-62 spells should be quite common - these are the levels the majority of the player base will be at for a long while and its even more of an incentive for people to buy PoP if they know they can at least get their initial spells.

King Burgundy
10-26-2002, 01:28 AM
Yeah, this is a major pain. I think we've seen maybe 10 total scrolls at this point(most of which were attained before nerfs to drop rate). Only seem to drop off mini bosses and bosses of various zones(PoJ, PoV, etc), and not every time. Since every casting class needs these pretty much, including hybrids...it means the lottos are ridiculous. ;) Haven't gotten a single spell yet. So level 62 now with no 62 or 61 spells except for the store bought regen. Oh well...someday I'll have them. :)

JigsawDenniz
10-26-2002, 10:10 AM
I got an etheral parchment off a level 63 spider in PoN. Turned it in for Blessing of Replenishment.

Right now, without my spells, I have no major incentive to level like a madman. I pounded out 4 AAs yesterday, bought SCM2, the next 4 are going to go into SotW. If I get some more spells though, I'll be advancing in levels to use them.

Oldoaktree
10-26-2002, 07:29 PM
I am beginning to think the same Jigsaw. While the level check *might* help on resists and landing spells, not getting new spells as I level means that I don't gain very much at all by pushing for levels.

AAXP skills I get right away.

The more I see of this, the more royally screwed up I think the new spell distribution has turned out to be. It was bad enough when 5 durids on a raid needed a rare spell that dropped. Now 30 to 40 people all need a parchment that MIGHT get them a spell they need (good chances for me since I still have none).

This is worse even than the Luclin bosses dropping the 60 spells. At least some of the good spells were easier to get. As it turns out now, the only reliable parchment droppers are the bosses.

Unless they did a stealth patch Nature's Harmony hasn't been put in the game yet :(

And our old harmony? Well in WL last night with my ranger went to Harm the giants at that structure in the corner... where LT. Krofer and the other named are?

Seems that Lt. Krofer is no longer susceptible to harmony... tho the sentinels still are. Since the other named was in there I wasn't able to harm the lot for a pull.

I'm pretty sure that Verant upgraded spell drops in at least plane of valor today. Minor non named mobs were not dropping parchments prior to today. They are now.

Could be but I was there for several hours and found none. Talked to people in guild who had been there all day and they found 3 spells total. Pretty sure if you spent 12 hours in a kunark dungeon you'd walk out with more spells of the 'lower end post 50 spells' than that...

*sigh* I've only won lotteries for 2 parchments so far, and both got me Ro's Illumination. Really wish the spell distribution wasn't totally FUBAR in yet another expansion. :(

Preferably, you'd be able to return a spell and get a different one of the same level... but I know how much Verant likes its timesinks. So... if they're not going to increase the parchment drop rate substantially to accomodate all casters competing for them, or allow trade-ins, the very least VI could do is flag your character when he/she gets a particular spell, so you don't get the same one a second time when turning in a parchment.

I was on yesterday morning at around 6 am EST when the broadcast message came that several zones were going to have a repop in ten minutes, including Valor, Storms, Halls of Honor, Torment, and one or two others. None of the tier 1 zones.

Immediately afterwards, parchments were found on common mobs in Valor by me and another group, hunting different areas. Since then, I've picked up Flight of Eagles, Karana's Rage, and Fury of Ro. All very nice. I got a triple crit with KR this morning : 3x2200, 1x1100...:)

Got another ethereal parchment tonight, turned it in, received Catastrophe (level 61). I'm still ticked about getting the same two 62nd level spells so far... Ro's Illumination x2.

I'd hate to sell the extra copy for plat when I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't have RI yet, but I don't see a whole lot of trading going on between druids, and none of our spells are showing up in Bazaar yet. Apparently folks are either not getting duplicates to sell/trade, or they're just holding onto spells to see what the market will bare before they assign prices.

I'm hoping people don't fall into "price gouge" mode and try to get rich off spell drops; it would be really nice if druids cooperated with each other during this time of collecting new spells. Yeah I know, supply and demand and all that good stuff...

Well, I have to say the no drop parchment idea was a good one. HOWEVER, the fact that the spells are tradeable, totally defeats the purpose, as you will be seeing spells being sold in the bazzar for about 2304982039 PP... (similar to topor, KEI, blessing of aego....etc) spells should be no drop, and should be recyclable to the guy you get them from. If you get a dup spell, just give it back until you get the one you want. VI really needs to rethink this process or there will continue to be peeps looting parchments for plat. i mean can they please just not friggin nerf or screw up one thing?

Hehe I dont think VI wants you to have a choice of what spell you get. If you want to pay 2304982039pp for a spell then that is fine. After the novolity wears off and people find out what spells are good and bad, then the prices will come back to withen reason. How about making it so that only classes can turn in parchment to their own class vendor. So that warriors and rogues and monks get nothing, that will keep them from looting your parchment. What is so bad about them making money though?
Anyway, turned in ethernal parchment today and got Storm's Fury. I couldnt cast it on myself to see what it did, however it doesnt sound all that grand from casters realm. Parchment dropped of the blob looking things in PoI.

After this last patch, are Spectrals dropping off any mob that isnt a boss mob in Tiers 1-3??? Enchanters who destroy HoH with pets were getting 0 spell drops, and I got 0 spell drops in HoH with a group. In addition, I heard that 0 spectrals dropped at the spider camp in PoN. Its bad enough that only 1 61st spell is store bought and all the decent druid spell upgrades are 63-64, now has Verant mostly removed Spectrals from tier 1-3 planes? I guess spectrals could always be dropping off trash mobs in higher tier planes, but you think Tier 3 would be far enough to get 63-64 spells.

After kicking around in PoV after finally getting my group enchanter past the trials, I decided to go back to PoN Creepers and Consorts camp two nights ago (11/19) to farm a few more parchments and to get safer XP (those Soldiers of Marr and Squad Leaders hit HARD).

Prior to the 11/15 patch, I would typically get at least 1 parchment drop from killing the 2 consorts (I even had 1 drop an ethereal and a spectral parchment at the same time). The creepers would drop at least 1 ethereal parchment every hour of camping them.

On 11/19, I killed 2 rounds of consorts (4 total) and 4 rounds of creepers (total of about 20 creepers in all) and got ZERO parchments. I finally logged in disgust.

Wasn't there a patch message somewhere that said something about drop rates INCREASING in most tier 1/2 zones?

Harmony of nature is sold in Shadowhaven, not in PoK
