View Full Forums : Today I cancelled both of my accounts

Just in case anyone cares...

I have completely lost confidence in Verant's ability to provide a fun game for my spare time. EQ is no longer fun for me or my husband. We cancelled all three of our accounts today.

I have become increasingly cynical/skeptical that anything can make this game enjoyable for me again, however if anyone is listening, here is what would help:

1) Expansions are supposed to expand the world, not shrink it. For the love of god, please make more exp zones.

2) Everyone should have an incentive to level, casters and melee alike. The parchment drop nerfs are unacceptable, as well as other issues that I know nothing about due to the fact that I do not play melees.

3) Fix the flag issues. Whether you are a member of an uber guild, or a casual player, each caste dislikes the way flags are done in this expansion.

I used to enjoy EverQuest, but it seems more like work when I log on anymore rather than fun. If many of the issues I feel are limiting my fun are not fixed within the next couple of patches I am leaving for good, and no, I am not selling my account. By doing so only gives Sony more money and to them it would be as if I had never left.

I would appreciate it if nobody flamed this post for whatever reason they feel they need to. This is just a tiny good bye. I still plan on reading the boards though. Who knows what may happen in the future?

Out of curiosity who else has cancelled their accounts recently? And why?

I did as well, about a month ago.

My reasons were much the same as above, plus my PvP guild started playing Neocron (we had left DAoC), so I had some leveling in another game to do :)

This board has satisfied my itch that eq used to fill, that is the social niche for me. Many of my friends have either quit the game or moved on to larger guilds (I have neither the time nor the patience).

Thank you Nimphe, but I will continue reading the boards, even if I have nothing to contribute =)

Ack Kinare you're my tailoring hero you can't quit :( .

Seriously, sorry to see you go - you were a big part of the Rodcet community.

Ok on the lighter side ... who was the troll on the EQ message boards when they still existed that always went "Can I have your stuff?".... I was a little temped, I have Kin envy :) .

That one senence articulates my entire feelings on PoP.

I bought PoP to expand my Everquest Adventure. What I got in return was actually a reduction in my EQ Adventure.

Hate to see you guys go. :(

I have cancelled 3 accounts in past weeks. I am still hanging on the last 3 but will probably cancel one tomorrow. I have 3 weeks to make up my mind for the last 2 accounts but it is extremely doubtful that I will be playing in 2003 at all.

I guess I will have to look up my good friend Jentriken in that ol' folks home in Canuckland! I promise to bring a suitcase full of spells.

Good for you -- you are voting with your feet. You really stand to lose nothing by canceling, since you can always come back with your characters intact if the game improves in the future.

Sorry to see you left EQ, but I'm sure it will be good for you and your husband. There are alot of games out there now, which although may not be as good, will still fulfill that need that EQ has been filling these past few years.

I myself left EQ about a month ago, after I left the guild the game got worse instead of better, so I just quit logging in. I have yet to actually cancel my account, but plan to before the next rebilling. I still need to take the time to log in and hand out some of the stuff to LoSt that they may find useful.

Hope everything goes well and tell Haller I said Hiyaz ;)

Canceled 2 accounts
Transfered 2 accounts to friends. Those accounts may get canceled soon as the friends appear to be considering retiring.

I havent canceled my account yet.....its coming to mind a lot latly. I am very disappointed in how PoP works and Luclin wasnt really worth it IMO either.

Having to get flags to advance made it harder for the casual players. I dont want to invest the time it takes for an uber guild anymore. Playing Tribes 2 is more enjoyable to me now than playing EQ is. I still log in but its more or so just to talk with friends.

The time it takes to even get something like a spell is just way to much. If verant destroys EQ I doubt they will have much of a chance getting ppl to come and play EQ2, guess they havent really though about that with PoP.

Things just weren't that fun for me. All I've seen and heard about PoP makes me glad I left.

I /salute all those who have canceled accounts in response to PoP. I wish I could get myself to do it.

I am constantly looking for the next MMRPG to move on to so that I can get myself to cancel. I guarentee you it won't be EQ2, Start Wars Galixies or ANYTHING Verant is behind ! Who the hell would want to play another game that is run by a company that refuses to listen to reasonable pleas for game changes by it's community ????

Whats amazing is not all that long ago they added light blue cons and upped the exp given for higher cons to let players have a wider range of places to hunt. More casual players could hunt and get at least some exp in easier areas while hardcore players could fight harder without it being just a waste of time if they didn't drop loot. Then along comes POP and they cut the damm range in half - WHACK. A complete 180 degree turnaround and not for the better. Casual player = screwed.

The flags I kinda like as an idea but turning it into a GvG conflicts BLOWS. I don't mind competition between guilds. I totally hate *fighting* other guilds which is what a lot of the flawed as hell flag encounters turn into. Same retarded blowable long spawns that caused players so much grief in SoL. In POP they are positioned not just so another guild can lessen the amount of loot you can get - they are positioned so they can hault your entire guilds advancement through the planes. First guild past a point can block all others. Casual player = screwed.

Drop rates need to be tuned for the median of who will be hunting there and for how long. They seem to watch guilds overpowered for an area rake in the loot then quickly nerf it until it's rare for those guilds. Along comes a lesser guild for who the area is a challenge and drops are pretty well nonexistant while requiring a lot more effort. Casual player = screwed.

My new years resolution is if these 3 things aren't fixed by Jan 1 2003 then EQ gets shelved for good.

My husband was talking to people at work that we were quitting... and the question came up:

"So... how much do you want for your accounts?"

"My wife won't sell hers. She won't let me sell mine either."

Mind you I have a 250 ogre smith (only one on the server, makes consistantly 40k per week without advertising by putting crap up for sale in bazaar at low prices), a 250 JC mule, the other has a 250 wood elf tailor and a 250 potter.

They offered some crazy amount of money for them. It boggles my mind why people do this, but I still won't sell. I dislike the idea of this on two levels. 1) That verant is getting more money and 2) that someone is running around with MY name! That is MY character and I will be damned if anyone else uses her.

And yes, I agree with Xitix. The flags are a HUGE cockblock fest. Nobody can do anything because so many of the larger guilds are jerks. Of course, I don't really know this personally as I haven't tried this, but the things I have heard from people who are doing them confirm what was happening in every expansion: Kunark through Planes of Power.

Contested content blows.

Quote:
makes consistantly 40k per week [/quote]

And that's why they wanted to buy it... 10Kpp sells for $50-60 on playerauctions. That's a nice revenue stream. Glad you didn't sell them. When I quit for good, all my characters are taking skydives off the highest point I can find and then getting deleted :)

The thought of someone playing Khieran or Brienna after all I've been through with them is just wrong...

I cancelled my two accounts a couple weeks ago. It just wasn't doing it for me any more. I'm not sure how deep that goes with VI and/or SOE and who messed up what or made this unplayable or decided to drive players out so they could sell EQ2 or SWG to them or whatever.
I just figured I got everything I could out of the game. I gave my main char to a guildie. The other account simply died. No chars worth saving for anyone anyway.

I canceled one account last month and the other 2 this week. But since I had paid for 6 months I still have 5 months left on both.

I had another friend who canceled both his accounts also and went back to Daoc.

I would not do that but I need a fix soon, anyone know of anything fun coming out soon?

Canceled my second acct when SoL came out. Gave away an acct that had been given to me by someone else that quit when PoP came out. So, now down to just my main acct. and looking forward to Shadowbane so I can move on. Have only been playing about 60% of the time I was before and most of that because of people asking me to come help with raids.

I have had 2 account for a long time. A friend of mine had 3 accounts, he has now retired (because of PoP) so I got his accounts and reactivated them.

At first I did this because I was all geeked about what I could do with 5 accounts (I have 3 systems at home that "can" run EQ). I could solo camps in a bunch of zones with 3 toons, all are pretty nice regarding equipment and such.

Although after spending the cash to active the 3 accounts for 3 months, I really wish I hadn't. I have yet to use those 3 for anything but bazaar junkies (24x7 sellers).

So, in about 2 months or so, 3 accounts will be canceled, and if they don't do something about this EXP in old world zones, I'll probably cancel my 2nd account.

I used to be able to duo with my 2nd account in almost any zone against any mob that didn't hit for 250 (quad/double,etc), those days are gone, and soon, all my accounts but 1 will be gone as well.

PoP really screwed allot of people, I don't understand Verants reasoning for this, IMHO it defies all logic. I'd really like to hear the logical reason for doing what they did, it pisses off players, it reduces revenue, it was poor business, etc. and yet here we all are, throwing crap into the wind, with no response from VI, that really just burns my @#%$

No wonder Verant has been making so much money and not caring when people cancel accounts when all of you have so many multiple accounts. It has boggled my mind to read soandso post " I am canceling my third account and if this keeps up I may even cancel my second!" LOL! That makes you feel liberated? I think you need to re-evaluate how much you're hurting Verant and how addicted you are if you have that many accounts.

Xiggin
12-18-2002, 09:29 AM
As I said before, having multiple accounts is probably a sign of the past. There used to be a time where 2,3,4-boxing was one of the best ways to enjoy EQ.

However, lots of people started multiple accounts for different reasons. In my case, I wanted to have more possibilities in tradeskilling as I needed the extra mules and transfer toons.

Oh well, life goes on.

I haven't reached the point of quitting yet. However, I find I'm playing less and less.

Your number one reason is the main reason. With Verant/Sony if you're not an Uber Guild type of player you just don't matter. Verant is just not paying attention to the needs of people that want to exp and have fun either in a partial group or solo.

I can't say that I won't play EQ II because of the way Verant has performed on EQ, because I would not play EQ II anyway. EQ II does not allow or severly restricts twinking (sorry guys but I like to twink). I don't like the character developement scheme in EQ II etc.

Now as for other Verant games Star Wars etc. Those I will not be buying/playing because of the way Verant has ignored the needs of large groups of their user base.

I just get the impression that the Uber Guild types are catered to and the rest of us don't matter. So I can do very well without any future Verant/Sony games. I go under the theory that you never miss what you don't start.

Interesting how PoP was marketed towards "fun" and challenging. I remember the quote that went something like:

"Remember when you first looked Trakanon in the face, and you knew that you had a matter of minutes to win or lose? PoP will bring back this level of fun and challenge, and will do away with endurance fights."

Camping the key to get to Trak took all of an hour or two at most. If PoP "keys" ala flags were this forgiving, yes I would agree.

I find it interesting how this "fun" expansion is very much the opposite for me. Time sinks are not fun for me, and I am becoming more and more unwilling to participate in them.

Cancelled mine a couple of months ago, EQ had lost it for me before planes of patching came out here in the UK.

There's gotta be a cascade effect heading EQ's way, as more of the cooler players cancel (im not counting myself in that =)).

The power gamers and general arses will have less of the nice folks to dilute them. The games going to get a lot less fun as the fun people leave.

Never gonna (knowingly) play an SOE game again, what's Earth and Beyond like? might look into that if a UK server pops up, shame to miss out on meeting players from around the world though.

All of my accounts have been cancelled for the last 2 months (since right before PoP came out). I knew what was coming and did not want to pay for it. So all of my accounts (4 at the time) were nuked and the other 3-4 that I have had in the past stayed cancelled.

/hug RN druids =)

Kanissa and Weewax, I still have time on the accounts and if you do see me in game it means I haven't run out yet. I am keeping my options open, but if the game remains the way it is now then I will not return. I know one of the accounts had a year left on it a few months ago so if anything I will have time to hop on and talk to friends on my ranger named Kinarie =)

Tomorrow's patch may bring us something to play with, but I am sad and skeptical for the future of a game I have loved for so long. I started playing this game late 2000, after my husband got back from the Gulf on a Navy cruise. At first the game frustrated me. I made a dark elf rogue and got lost and died in Nektulos forest and swore I would "never again play such a confusing game."

But then my husband was having fun, so we got another account. We played together, laughed together, made friends together, now we quit together. We play daoc now, and I am still trying to decide if I like it or not.

Look for Kinarie (14 scout) on Bedevere (Albion realm) if anyone plays. I would be happy to group with ya (or pk you if you are one of the ebil hibbies or migards).

Early days on Earth and Beyond, just got it. Looks very deep, and it's an interesting change going back to sci-fi after a long fantasy stint.

I'm in as a trader as I was tired of fighting stuff and just want to live a normal life in a game for a bit :) The trading looks interesting when you know who pays well for what, and the "trade skills" system looks good.

The way you can build up your character looks really flexible. It seems to be a similar system to DAoC where every level you get a bunch of skill points and have to decide what to specialise in.

Also the character creation was fun, choosing styles, clothes etc.

If I have any gripes so far, all the stations I've been to look the same and the weird mouse control system sucks (arghhh lemme use my damn joystick!)

Looks really neat though. Certainly looks a lot more involved than Jumpgate even if the concept is almost idential.

Kinare, you'll have fun in DAoC I think. Lots of nifty stuff there to play with for a while :) It does feel a bit "simple" at times as it's quite a small world compared to EQ and most mobs are just variants of the leprachauns, sproggans, rowdys and suchlike that you encounter at the very beginning.

But there's a heck of a lot positive about it. Tradeskills are actually fun. Lots of annoyances are removed, for example the masses of downtime! In fact it's so much "Go" (as opposed to spending most of your gaming time sat on your ARSE doing NOTHING like in EQ) that it can get quite exhausting :) Realm vs Realm I never reached, but it sounds good... that's coming from someone who was never really into PvP stuff.

BTW silsow... there isn't a UK server for E&B that I know of yet, but in case you didn't know they now sell E&B at Amazon.co.uk.

I know, we were going to give in and get ours sent from a pal in the States, but Amazon finally got it in... the only place I know over here that sells it.

I deleted and cancelled.

Of 12 characters over level 50 across 3 servers, 3 are still in existance- all are stripped to bare naked with only their epics. All items and cash either destroyed or given away.

Doccus

I've had several reviews of E&B from guildies I trust, and who share my same gaming interests (i.e. PvP). They found it boring. If you try E&B and find it boring as well, consider Neocron. Not the best graphics in the world, but good PvP and a fairly solid engine. There's enough skill diversity to keep everyone from being cookie cutters.

If you try Neocron, make a character on the Saturn server and say Hi to Derelict (me) :)

Edit: Neocron is a science fiction MMORPG, which is why I brought it up again :)

Heh. Yes, it's like Anarchy Online, but actually is playable :)

I played AO for the first couple of months. Funcom lost a customer for life.

Neocron is a mix of first person shooter (you have to AIM), and science fiction MMORPG. It's not graphically rich, but the gameplay is nice, and the tradeskill system beats just about anything I've seen (just about every item in the game is player-creatable. Researchers can take an existing item and make blueprints of it.)

It's much like DAoC, though, in that you need to level in order to do any variety of PvP (and win ... you can, of course, lose often in PvP at the lower levels). The leveling is swift ... one of my more hard-core guildies has a "level" 75 PSI Monk, in one month of play. You can max your character with 2-3 months of hardcore play, then enjoy the PvP aspects of the game :)

It's not the BEST game in the world, but it is a unique blend of FPS and MMORPG, which will hold me over until Shadowbane releases.

Their web site. (http://www.neocron.com/)
