Just doesn't scare me. Moonfire. Now thats cool. Starfire. I like that too. Winters Frost, however, nips at your toes, not breaks you in half. I really think it needs a better name deserving of our best direct damage spell.

Any idea's? Seriously here. :)

Heh, Winter's Frost would scare the hell outta me if I were stuck up in Grayling Michigan outside w/o a very nice sleeping bag =P

Personally I don't care what its called, if only I could get the @#%$ spell

After level 49 and the originial uber nuke for druids, Starfire, things just went downhill.

<strong>Cast on you: &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp You feel the glare of the heavens.
Cast on other: &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Someone is bathed in starfire.</strong>

I mean... after ripping open a portal to the sun and smiting your enemys with it's fury, just where are you going to go?!?

Winter's Blight

Icestrike of Ec'i

I am wracking my brain to remember a vaguelly remembered term for a strong driving wind with ice pellets in it. I THINK there is a specific name for it but I just am not recalling it.

ha, good point. From an RP perspective, I like to think of Starfire as the last of the "controlled" nukes...Wildfire being more chaotic..y'know, like it's actually dangerous to use or something. "You're calling Wildfire, are you <em>nuts</em>!?"

anyway...

Summer's Flame - blisters in the flames of Summer
Winter's Frost - savaged by spikes of purest ice

They seem to go together. But a different name could be
Winter's Blast, or
Winter's Bitterness, or
Winter's Cold

Are you perhaps thinking of Sleet, Oldoak?

Hmm, a better name for our best cold nuke. It has to be short (duration), sharp and hit like a ton of ice. Ice Fall? No, something bigger. I mean, a li'l ol' Avalanche (http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=28&source=Live) is only lvl 39.

Name something bigger that's absolutely frigid and makes as much impact as a catastrophic avalanche. No, not Frostbite. It has to feel like an iceberg has been dropped on you.

Or a comet. Comets are, after all, typically composed of frozen gases blended with interstellar dust. One of those crowning your noggin would spoil your day.

So how about these:
- Cometfall
- Cometstrike (my favorite)
- Glaciercrush

Then, of course, there could be ancient forms: eg. Ancient: Cometstrike of E'ci.

The ironic part is that comets do not usually strike (http://lucy.fnord.net/spelllist.html?searchtext=strike) the ground. They melt like blowtorched slurpees in summer from atmospheric friction. But suspend disbelief and imagine a comet striking the surface of an airless planetary body at 50 thousand miles per hour. Now <em>that</em> would qualify.

Snowball! No wait, that's what level 5 druids should be able to wield. Ancient: Snowball of E'ci? *biff* hehe

blizzards bite - your spirit is frozen - you are encased in a drift of natures ice.

How about Hells Hailstorm, ice scythes, frozen death.
bah! I still shake my head that a druids best HP and Mana buff before 63 is called Protection of the Cabbage!! hmm, maybe rename our frozen nuke to Cold Carrots. Kinda looks like a bunch of carrots falling out of the sky ;)

Hey Gimli, with World of Warcraft coming out, I think the spell would be called Blizzard Bites rather than Blizzard's Bite.... Just a thought.

I like "Tunare's Icy Breath" personaly.

But I did always find her a bit cold.

Think we already havea hailstorm spell...rain in the early levels?

Comet names too close to Ice Comet...

I like the glacier idea but everything I tried to work off of glacier with ended up sounding like Elneriks Entombment of Ice. Glacier suggests being crushed and held by ice.

Sleet is not what I was thinking of ; ). The image I have is of gale force winds ripping ice pellets at you at a speed that can gut you. Something you might encounter in the Arctic etc.

I also thought of something working off of Arctic...but it doesn't sounds RP enough.

I know this might be a sleight derail, but I have a bit of questions about this spell as I just bought it. I'm not good with figuring the math involved in mana efficiency.

Is it more mana effecient for me to use Summer's Flame with 20% mana savings (ornate gloves) or to use Winter's Frost with 10% mana savings (mana pres4)?

Summer's Flame. With evocation specialization and SCM3 as well as your focus you should see about 5.4 dpm with Winter's Frost and 5.76 dpm with Summer's Flame. Since it's smaller, you'll probably waste less to overnuking and such as well.

Thanks L1ndara! That's exactly what I was looking for. Generally one spell chooses itself though as trends in zones cause one to almost always land better than the other. :)

Well guess it really depends where your from.. I mean come on if you were from SD, California - Winter's Frost would feel like "savaged by spikes of purest ice" hitting you.

SCM 3 + Evok is about 25%.
Mana Pres is .. random I think.
So, 30% average savings on Winter, 35% average savings on summer.
With 15% crit rate (maxish) and 23% focus, that's 27% more damage on average (ignoring resists).

Depending on the damage focus you have:
7.7 damage per mana for Summer (23% focus'd)
7.5 damage per mana for Summer (Damage 4 focus'd)
7.2 damage per mana for Winter (23% focus'd)
7.0 damage per mana for Winter (Damage 4 focus'd)
6.9 damage per mana for Summer (un damage-focus'd)
6.5 damage per mana for Winter (un damage-focus'd)

<strong> SCM 3 + Evok is about 25%.</strong>

21% with a bit of rounding.

<strong>Mana Pres is .. random I think.</strong>

1 to 10% random, so about 5.5% average. Gloves are 1 to 20% random, so about 10.5% average.

Be nice if those gits would just put numbers on the manapool. That was what I originally used MacroQuest for the most, although having locs of ground spawn saving countless hours getting bark for tailoring, getting mobs exact level and class and full /who lists were all very nice too. However the best bit was /tar actually, get this, working! Yeah, amazing how /tar or clicking on someone often won't FRICKEN target them even though they're right beside you. That wasn't true with MacroQuest, I could /tar and it would always work, no missed heals because it's literally impossible to target the person right beside you.
