Rahjeir will comment more on this as we get closer to the release of the new boards.

History:

As you are all aware we moved from EZboards to Vbulletin back in October of this year. We the Staff of TDG have been patiently awaiting the new release of the VBulletin Version 3.00. Its in Gamma at this point and final release is imminent.

What can you expect:

Upgrading your Board

As the templates have changed dramatically since the previous versions of vBulletin, you will not be able to use your existing templates unless you are going to make notes of what has changed in the new templates and apply the changes to your customized versions. There is a new tool in the style manager called "Revert all templates" which will delete all customized templates from your style, leaving any CSS and Stylevar preferences you have for that style. This will make your style instantly usable.

As you see.. basically the template may.. or may not have to be redone (things never work like you expect them to). This time however we are going to have several templates to choose from (you can choose a couple different ones now if you haven't checked that out yet).

The Portal will need to be redone .. it looks like.

You won't lose any of the features we have now - but several will be enhanced. "Quick reply will actual have more tools (bold, quotes etc... )"

New Features
- Private messages are now grouped by sending date, and each group can be collapsed to conserve screen space
- Calendar events to which you are subscribed can now be managed via a tool in the user control panel
- Styles can be quickly switched using the Quick Style Chooser menu located at the bottom of the page
- Paid subscriptions now have a link in the user control panel
- Your attached files can be managed using a link in the user control panel
- The new horizontal-style postbit can be changed to use the old-style vertical postbit via a simple switch in the vBulletin Options admin control panel
- The CSS editor now includes a simple description for each style element, telling you where the class tends to be applied
- CSS stylesheets can now be saved as cacheable files, rather than included within the HTML of every page

Much of this you may not see but overall those boards you may have already gone to that have released VB3 are enjoying the new upgrade.

The best feature is the ability for use to click on Optimization and Repair feature's in the admin section which increases the overall performance of the board after this is done.. ( I just did it tonight here, and the speed doubled).

Those that have any knowledge in creating Templates - Please please submit them to me directly at admin@thedruidsgrove.org and I will forward them to Rahjeir and they will be installed, just remember they have to be VB 3.0 Templates.

Anyhow I just wanted you all to know - especially those that support the Grove directly with contributions that we are always working on ways to improve the site and keeping your community on the cutting edge and giving you a more enjoyable environment.

What does this mean for late december? Druid Grove downtime. The bulk of the upgrade will happen after midnight(ET) sometime in the future. The date of it, I do not know at this time. Depends on when I feel it's stable enough to be released. I don't like releasing anything with major bugs in it.

Some other projects that will get worked on in the near future is a spell section, Guide/Quest section and a interactive section. And of course the overhaul of our Front page. Our Front Page has been somewhat temp since we moved here. Something more perm is in the planning stages to be written.

And of course the druids grove will cover more games, in the future. The goal is to make it a druid multipurpose board. This of course is the longterm goal. The short term goal is to get the message board 100% done, along with the Front Page.

On The 16th of Decemeber, our server (www.thedruidsgrove.org) will be moving to a newer, faster Server.

They say there will be NO downtime.

(cough)

I've come up with a fix, on the beta side for the search engine. Since the druids grove is so big, the road block was, overloading the server. That problem was bypassed. When we upgrade the search feature it will fully work.
