I think I'm officially over my EQ addiction. I think it happened sometime in the last week, when I didn't even think of the game. I haven't really played in over a year, though I did log back in now and then until August. And recently - the last couple months, but the last couple weeks especially my training has taken up so much of my time (a good thing) that I think it is officially behind me

Anyway, gets me thinking - what do y'all do outside of the game? Families? Ages? We hardly talk about ourselves except our pixel selves ~ answer if you want - no obligation! I'm sure we'll see a lot of students and/or software engineers in this bunch, eh? People with time on their hands, at least!

Me? I'm an officer in the USAF - entered through OTS (the reason I quit EQ) and am now in Phase 2 UPT. I'm single and 23 - too busy for putting together a family these days :)

I'm 18, done with half of my senior high school year, and really don't care about the other half :p I'm into a good university for next year, so it's time for me to kick back, relax, and just have some fun until next fall. I hope you're all jealous :)

I just like doing different things, nothing out of the ordinary for a 18 year old male. Sports, working out, reading, being with friends.

O yea, I'm over EQ, and even though I have a FFXI account I'm not too into it.

I'm an over-40 woman, married, no children, serious computer geek who is still actively playing Everquest and probably will till they pull the plug.

Other than EQ, I work. Yeah, exciting huh?

I think I've pretty much kicked the habit too though I did login to check out the new spell effects. They were kind of neat but not cool enough to keep me playing.

I used to raid hardcore but man I don't know how I ever managed to do that this summer and stay in my current service school-Army-Baylor Physical Therapist program. Finally we are almost done this coming Jan and then I just have 4 more months of clinicals.

I took a 3 mo break at the start thinking I didn't have time to play anymore, then got sucked back into it as my guild hit VTand the elemental path. Somehow I managed to hang in until we went full elemental but then I got tired of uber politics and said the hell with it.

My life is much better now-regular exercise and time with my wife and I've been doing things around the house mostly as a hobby. I'm interested in WoW mostly and maybe EQ2, but I'll never let a game take up so much of my life~insane. I'm about 13 hours into KOTOR and it's fun.

Anyway, here's me, 31, married 10 yrs, childfree and loving life.

Ciao

29, single, male, part-time student, full time IT.

I work nights Sunday through Thursday nowadays, so I actually only play EQ generally on Fridays or Saturdays for raiding and such. Other hobbies include Snowboarding, Hiking, Golf, Reading, Gaming(computer, board, card, whatever), and I'm a music and movie whore. Can't get enough.

29 and 7 years experience, female, chemist. Don't know much about computers, married to a man who seems to have magical powers over them, which hopefully explains the dead chicken in our office. I work in the air quality sector of the environmental business. My EQ time has been diminishing more and more lately, the further the game moves from the original 'vision'.

40's, female, former EQ addict. :p I'm an independent computer consultant specializing in Unix System administration, programming (Perl, php, C). I've had very close friends for 20 years that we still game together (DnD, various board/card games). A bit of a nerd. I love gardening and cooking when I'm not sucked into a game and handy around the house with things like fixing plumbing, building simple stuff and even electrical stuff.

38, work as a cssr for cable. Yes, I take an ungodly amount of abuse. Female, unmarried, no family, but very close friends.

Also work in theater, primarily as a set designer. I'm also a puppeteer. I do some acting, but prefer behind-the-scenes stuff.

I draw, paint, and sculpt. I've written scripts that have been produced locally, and I'm working on the 3rd book of a fantasy trilogy that I hope to get published someday. (Any connections out there?)

I'm a pretty sedate shaman, actually.

Wildaiena, just have to say that looking at your sig next to you in a uniform with a sports car is pretty funny ;)

Me: Been playing eq for sheesh must be 3 years now. I quit a month ago but got sucked back in although, I don't play nearly as much as I used to. I've learned to make time for more important things in life. I'm making a transition from being a civil engineer to working in multimedia, so taking classes, working and sort of freelancing....enjoying every minute of it. :)

33, male, work in real estate in the south of sunny Spain (yes, for real, I kid you not). Have been with the same girl for the past 6 years and fending off those marriage proposals for the last 3, and lets not even start with the "I want kids" argument! But I like my freedom too much and I'm too selfish to invest my time in a child so I'm having none of that.
I've been big into computers since I was about 11 when I spent a year in a british boarding school and I saw an electronic gadget (called a computer of course) and bought my very first one about 10 years ago (killed my joystick playing Xwing and Tie Fighter). Then I did some webpage design, played some more Star Wars games, found EQ at the end of 2000, and got hooked until about 3 months ago when the urge to keep on playing just suddenly died.
I may look into WoW and EQ2 also, but I dunno, it's funny how these urges seem so powerful then just slow down and disappear, isn't it?

my name is alyn... and i'm an alcoholic...

(****, wrong forum....)

when not playing eq, i work in IT, and spend time getting used to honey-do's (getting married next fall...) (and i never knew jeep headlamps were different from a normal car's... or that cat litter smelled so bad.)
i'm frugal, imo. eq is more cost-effective entertainment than renting a movie or going to the bar every other night. figure i've saved a couple hundred c notes in bar bills alone, when i compare my current expenses to my college days! 'course i just blow it on my fiancee, then, but hey, her happy is an intoxication of it's own sort...
i drive a hyundai. i dream of getting back into tang soo do, but probably never will, due to being inwardly terrified of hurting my knee again. keep telling myself i'll try it and see what happens.

oh, i cackle a lot in real life, too!

/cackles!

p.s. i hear there's a dj in canada named 'alan cross'.... need to meet this chap someday.

31, chicky software developer in SoCal. Been playing since...um...2001? seems longer than that. Started playing because my boyfriend played (I used to sit behind him, quilting, and reading his /g and /t spam). We played together until February of this year, when we both quit. I came back in...um..September?

We've been together three years and we're happy with that (though everyone around us goes into a tizzy about 'omg, you're not married yet, blah blah blah' - hi, get a life). Have the two bestest kitties in the world, Nicky and Cato, and I drive the coolest car in the world (2003 Nissan 350Z Touring model in LeMans Sunset - that's orange, kids). =)

I used to do costuming for local theatres but the drama, BS, abuse (of people's time and abilities) and the fact that I wasn't getting paid forced me to retire (probably for life). I miss it though because I love the creativity and I especially loved doing period pieces.

For now, I'm into quilting. It's fun. =)

21, male. Living with parents (someone's got to put the network of PCs and ADSL connection to good use /snicker)

Working as "IT Support" for quite a large (~50 employees) but currently dysfunctional charity with grand ideas, just above min wage, though they can't even afford paper for the printers at the moment :p I don't know which is gonna come first, that place losing its funding and shutting down or me getting the heck out and finding a properly paid job...

Right now I'm trying my best to dig them out of the stone age and provide some sort of Management Information Systems (I'm into Access database development amongst other things) which the funders now pretty much *need* us to have. Amongst other things there needs to be solid support for the induction, details and evidence recording for trainees as well as tracking/recording/automating policies and procedures to keep things together, and hopefully bring some sort of order to the place.

Nobody likes beuraucracy, but our place started off as a family organisation and has kept that same "family" culture for the best part of 10 years. It all sounds very nice, but it's quite destructive for a variety of reasons and needs to have some sort of order to it if we're to survive!

Spare time is an obvious one - message boards, EQ, SL etc.

Standard British blood - mainly flowing with beer (I'm a Real Ale fan myself). Large chunks of weekends are devoted to going out and having a few, which at least means a break from the computer hehe

Oh, and I'm allergic to cats.

26, Male born in the hussle of NYC. I'm a Director and Technical Director in the field of TV Production. In a nutshell, I'm one of the people behind the scenes that make TV shows for the world to watch.

The 3 babies in my life are my girlfriend, my 1963 Corvette Roadster and my 1982 Delorean DMC-12. And of course a hobby of mine is to play EQ.

Back to the future eh? You know what's strange is that nobody wanted one of those until the designer got busted for coke!

Nice comic, but I never wanted to be one so much as I just like looking at a nice tight woodelf azz everytime I play =p! Hey hey and look at the chicks in EQ2! hmmmm.....

24, male (damn am I getting old) self taught (read no post high school education) programmer for a Telco/ISP (#495 in the fortune 500). All of my time since the last time I quit EQ has been spent with my daughter and wife, who has the second child ready to spawn next July. Trinity is 9 months old now and just the most incredible thing I can imagine in life. Just last week she started giving high fives and shaking hands.

Damn, now I wish I was at home with her and not at work.

I can also be the one who takes the blame for the first www.thedruidsgrove.org...it seems to be doing much better now without me.
