Hi All Orcanis here,

I am back in the EQ world after a little over a year off. I am a level 38 druid on the 7th Hammer server(yes my char was still there after all that time) I am amazed at how much the game has changed and yet has stayed the same. I like the new look and the new expansions.

However I have a few questions. I have been surfing the net to get ideas on where to go to hunt and equipment and such so on and so forth. My first question is I see reference to KEI while hunting I assumed this was the enchanter clarity type buff but when I hunted for a chanter to cast it they told me it will not hold on lower level chars like myself. Is there a level cap on KEI or was I given a line of BS.

Second I have no cash in the bank and I need WIS items. Where would a good place to go to make some plat so I can upgrade my char. I am currently at 175 WIS and have been huntin cougs in IC. I was gonna run over to RM and hit the hill giants is this still a good money maker or is there better places at my level.

It has been fun relearning my char, LOL took me awhile to get quading down but the cougs are an easy bet hehehehe. I am still afraid to group yet since I dont want to get anyone killed due to my rustiness LOL But it wont take me long to get comfortable with Orcanis again. Well that should about do it for now, sorry to blab so long just glad to be back.

They revamped the buffs. At lvl 38 only the 50- buffs will land on you now, even if you are grouped with the person.

As for cash, I can't help ya, I haven't played the game in a while now hehe. I've heard that the LDoN adventures are good cash. If you can find a good group, LoY zones are decent cash if I recall, but then I never tried any of them at 38.

Orcanis,

Welcome back to the 7th Hammer!

I'll look for you tonight, and I'll help you out a bit with some plat and a few WIS items to get you going. I'll also toss you a stack of stat food and drink (Misty Thicket Picnics and Qeynos Afternoon Tea), which is another 10 WIS. If you get good at force feeding what you forage, they should last you several months. I made them myself, so no complaining about the taste ;P

One thing that may have changed since you left is the new LFG tool (don't remember which expansion you need to have this tool). The window pops up automatically when you go /lfg. It makes it much easier to put groups together. Also, PoK is a good spot to look for a group, as well as the Wayfarer camp zones (Butcher, NRo, EF, SRo, and EC) if you're looking for an adventure. With the new group XP bonuses, it really is quicker to group now, unless you're twinked to high heaven. Group bonuses for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 players are now 20, 40, 60, 80, and 116%, so a 6 person group only has to kill about 3 times as fast to get the same XP (each) as a soloer, whereas before they had to kill 5 times as fast.

Hey tatankwad,

Thanks for the offer but I am not looking for actual handouts, although I do appreciate the offer, I was looking on places to go to make some cash. Unfortunately I wont be able to get back on till this weekend. I forgot how fun this game was/is. I have to laugh that the class wars are still going but I guess that will never change. I am a bit discouraged that our porting ability if pretty much useless now. The funniest thing so far has to be when I went to the commons and no one was there auctioning. I was like WTF? Then I read up about the bazaar. So I went there to check it out and didn't realize the sellers are like vendors. I was sending tells to folks asking about items and they were all AFK so it took me awhile to figure out you just click on them like a vendor. It ammused me, just had to laugh at myself. I feel like a total N00b at times but things are slowly coming back to me. I do like the new LFG thing. Also, I see a lot of peeps shout LFA. I assume this mean Looking for Adventurers for the LDoN set? I need to get that one I guess. SO thanks everyone for the advice, I will look for you when I am on tatankwad so you can fill me in.

This game is in decline.
Next month when the newest expansion is released it will stil sell 250k copies but it will be the least popular expansion of all i would guess.

This is not an eq is dying post. Even i am not cancellling my account. I might never cancel it as it now costs like 1/10 of my cable bill.
I'd get rid of that mindless medium first. :rolling:

However EQ as a growing mmrpg at the forefront of the genre is almost over.

And not from some other game, simply because its time.

POP was really the end all be all of expansions everything after this is going to be an anticlimax.

The two expansions released before gates of discord were simply filller.
Once gates is released people will realize we had three expansions in a row where the game simply did not change much they will slowly drift off in search of something new.

This is not a knock on a fabulous game its simply reality.

Kudos to verant and sony online entertainment for keeping us all so preoccupied for almost 5 years!

I dunno, UO is still going fairly strong, and it's older then EQ. I understand what you're saying, and am kinda worried about that with GoD, but we'll see how things go. It's still very much worth coming back to though. THe game has A LOT to offer new players, the only real downside it has to a lot of the newer games is graphics. The servers are very stable(barring the end of the month here..), the bugs are not horribly rampant, there is tons of content, and the game is pretty easy for a new player to get into now. It really blows how a lot of the games coming out are lacking in anything to do but kill monsters, and can be a little too limited in the locations available for high levels =-p

And uhm, to get back to the start of the thread... hi! =-p

Let me just echo some other comments (and welcome back to the 7th Orc):

If you have cable or DDI, then the bazaar is your friend. Make a bazaar bot. Tradeskill components sell for ridiculous amounts (well seems to me): spider silks around 15-30plat, swatches around 30 plat (yes I know how dumb this is, it is more efficient to sell silks than swatches, go figure), foraged dye ingredients (for ribbon skill ups) 50-150 plat (roughly same whether you actually make the dye or sell the ingredient), leather padding, whatever you can gouge (all melee classes need to get smithhing to around 170ish to make bane weapons) - look around, check out eqtraders and if you can leave a bazaar bot logged on when you arent playing the plat will flow.

Equipping your character in "uber" gear from a year ago will cost you chicken feed. I would definately get at least the PoP expansion, personally I like LoY (I know a lot dont think it was worth it but I like it). LoY zones are quite good hunting from a vendable loot (coin and gems) point of view but not so good for quadding if that is your thing. LdoN is fun and generates lots of cash or bazaar loot.

PoK is the new EC, and has not improved (its got a lot worse). If you see me on and want to chat send me a tell, however I am not much good on good places to solo.

The Stones trump Austin Powers!

"Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste"

(Sympathy for The Devil - Rolling Stones 1968)

I don't believe Orcanis was going for the Stones reference due to the fact that the word "Please" was left out of the Post title. Also, and even more of al tell-tale sign, you will notice that Orcanis meant for us to pause between the words "introduce" and "myself" when reading the post title and in the Stones song there is clearly no pause between those 2 words when they sing it.

Orcanis,

One of the best moneymakers I found at your level was good ol' leather padding. Hunt the leopards and leopardesses in Stonebrunt, since all pelt drops there are low quality or higher. Depending on the prices on your server, you may be better off hunting the spiderling silks yourself or buying them in the bazaar. Also, farming the crag spiders in EK for spider silk can be quite profitable, although that area attracts far more players. For variety, hunt the highland lions in NK for a high quality lion skin. They don't drop very often (I'd estimate 1% of the time), but when they do, they sell for several thousand plat. Alternatively, gather the HQ lion skin with the other components for the fleeting quiver, and hire a high level tailor to do the combine
for you. Bags can now be sold in the bazaar, and I normally sell fleeting quiver tokens for 4K.

Lastly, and I think you might need a few more levels to do this, you can hunt the wisps in Jaggedpine Forest. Except for the occasional odd drop (such as a shockstone), they always drop a greater lightstone. Bring a bunch of bags, and when they're full, zip off to NK and do the quest at the gypsies.

I hope this helps, and good luck with your return.
