Yes, after numerous attempts, I finally solo'ed Quarm. I just got back from Air Condition Repair school(upper 34 percentile of class) and decided I'd go ahead and jump onto my woodelf and try yet again to solo, since my friends and I have been duo'ing/trio'ing Quarm for awhile now.

It was pretty easy this time, I had a little bit of luck and got down to about 25% before the kill. Then I had to go use the toilet because I had this cheesesteak sandwhich from an arabic grocery store and they must've put jihad in it or something and i had violent exploding diarheeahrehaa.

This guy is from the necro board. He posts crap like this on all the class forums to try to get flamed, then brags on the Necro board to all his geeky little necro friends.

Panamah, I've been meaning to ask you, and this seems like a good place.

Morrowind, I don't suppose they've done anything about the user interface since the original release? I got my copy sitting around for months now gathering dust because of that horrid UI, and I'd like to give it a go again, but crappy UI's are just frustrating.

Panamah

Hmmm.... What didn't you like about the UI? Everything is remappable, BTW. No, I don't think they changed anything about the UI between expansions, but I don't really know because I bought the entire set at once.

Here's what I found worked for me: I had to continually modify my 1-9 key setup depending on what I was doing, but I typically had a heal potion on 8 and my most frequently used weapon on 1 and a heal spell somewhere else. I haven't played a mostly-caster class yet and I think the spell system seemed really clunky. I almost never use scrolls or castable spells in combat, generally rely on buffing myself silly and doing melee. I always had my levitation amulet on key 9 and my non-lev amulet on another key, so it was easy to be airborne, or not.

For special battles I set up all my self buffs 1-9. I right click (inventory), pump myself full of potions, click through my self-buffs from items and then go at it. Basically using the right click (inventory menu) to swap weapons, or gulp some other potion when the time was right.

At first I hated the UI, but then I adapted to it and it is fine, if a little klunky. Took me awhile to stop attacking things with my lockpicks! I just started a second character. A Nord fighter type with some theiving and casting secondary stuff.

As far as managing the inventory screen, you really have to use those tabs at the top and know that things are sorted alphabetically. Probably the inventory screen is the part I hate the most really. It's so hard to find one potion out of 40 different ones you're carrying. However, you should know that your mouse scroll wheel works in all the menus and it makes things much easier.

And I don't like assigning the hotkeys. They should've broken it into more categories like: Weapons, apparel, scrolls, potions, spells, misc and then given you more hotkeys too.

The UI is simple. Too simple though. But in my opinion, it is well worth the effort of getting over the hurdle of learning the UI to play this fabulous game.

Psst, there's a whole section on "other games" down below.

Somehow this place seemed like a better place to put it.

It's not very easy to describe what I dislike about it, as it's really several elements.

First and foremost is the akward movement, I guess, but then again I grew up on first person shooters, so I'm perhaps a bit spoiled because of that.

I also hated the weapon/spell/item selection scheme, especially when you are in the heat of the battle and are trying to find one particular thing in 15 fast.

I did play around with the editor tho, and I just *loved* the level of customising there was, which saddens me since the game felt like such a burden to work with through the interface.

Hrrm... Perhaps I ought to reinstall it again and give it a whirl. spend an hour or two and look at setting up keys better. I'll do that tomorrow, I think.

Clunky is certainly a fitting word for the interface. *grin*

I dunno, I thought Morrowinds interface was pretty friendly to a FPS sort of style, as that's how I used it, WASD movement, and mouse is attack/"shoot", put an inventory on top of the FPS type interface, and that's Morrowinds. Though it's been awhile since I played, so maybe I'm just remembering it more fondly then it was =-p The inventory wasnt all that great, but was passable enough.

I think my biggest problem with the Inventory was the amount of clutter that you collected. I was always afraid of throwing stuff away and then find out two weeks later that I couldn't fulfill the Neverine Prophocies since I threw away a wooden spoon. I was a walking library, armory and pawn shop with all the junk I was carrying around.

I played a Knight so I used some spells but didn't rely on them in combat. In fact, I don't think I had a single spell that I could cast on my enemies. Just beneficial things like Healing , travel and other convenience spells. I think I was about 2/3 of the way through before I learned how to craft my own spells.

Other than that, I thought it was a pretty good game. I just played it recently and it reminded me a lot of Ultima IX (Ascension) and a bunch of other classic RPGs.

I've been interested in giving DAoC a go but as there is no trial i've always avoided playing it due to having to buy the software outright.

Is it going to have any longevity to it or is it going to same way as EQ? Will WoW kill it?

Thanks

Define DAoC going the same way as EQ...? They're fairly similarly games in a lot of ways, but different too. If you think WoW is gonna kill either of them, then it's highly doubtful, but seeing as I can't forsee the future with full clarity, it's not 100% =-p

It would help to provide information about it if you asked more specific questions. It's been out for quite awhile, and had probably the most stable release of any MMORPG yet, it has a fairly decent subscriber base still too, so it's already got longevity.

You don't really have to do anything fast in combat. And the hotkeys 1-9 kind of give you some limited abilities in that area. Other than that, you have to use the inventory screen. My only suggestion is to make use of the tabs for weapons, apparel, magic, misc and such. And to not carry too much junk. :p

The thing I hate about Morrowind is that there can only be one spell active at once. You have to take the time to go to the menu, click on a different spell, then exit. Then you cast, after all that time taken out just to switch spells.

Yes, you *can* do it that way. But a faster way is to load up the hotkeys with spells you commonly cast. My characters don't cast all that many spells though, so I usually only end up with a heal or something on a hotkey and use the rest for potions, weapons or other magic items.

There are unfortunately too few hotkeys though. 9 isn't enough for everything you really need to have quick access too.

OH! I did find out you can delete spells too. So obsolete spells, or practice ones, you can just delete from your list. I think it was CTL-mouseclick on the spell to nuke.
