Query! Since GOD was released my PC with Win XP on it locks up every once in a while (only when running EQ) and the screen just goes dark.

My Win ME and Win 98 systems seem to work fine. Anyone else experiencing this problem with Win XP and EQ?

I to have had a Problem Lately. I will get and error that says- We have detected that your cleint may have crashed followed by a boot to desk. It gets very irritating happen sometimes every 15 minutes. Other time it doesn't happen but every 2 hours or so its very random.

Best thing you can do about this is to make sure all your drivers are up to date. If they are you may need new vidio or sound upgrades, possably more ram. If this is the case make sure you run with as few new models on as possable, and keep alot of the visual perks turned off. Spell effects, weapon particles, clip plane , and such.

I too have this problem. I have the latest drivers, the latest patches on winXP, run with the basics for models, and no spell effects. I still crash randomly. My video card aint bad either. Its a GeForce Ti-4400 iirc.

I dont know what does it, I assume its a directx9 issue, because I also crash in LDoN, in Ssra, etc.

/sigh. Any other suggestions?

See if the Umbra setting got accidentally turned on again in your eqclient file. Make sure UseUmbra=FALSE. If that doesn't work, don't always assume it's your video card - try running around with the sound disabled through the client file for a few minutes to see if that helps.

I had this problem.. the black screen out of nowhere.. I figured it was an overheating problem.. took a can of air, blew the dust out of my case and it hasn't happened since.

I had this happen to me in a previous patch. Deleting (copy it to a temp folder, jic) the old eqclient.ini file and starting a fresh one is what worked for me. Found this suggestion on the SoE tech message board. Seems that the eqclient.ini file gets loaded with old commands after a while and starting a fresh one resolves a number of problems.

I pored through the eqclient file, didnt see a reference to UseUmbra. So i made a line about it, and am crossing my fingers. Should there have been a line for it in the first place?

UseUmbra was removed from my file automatically. It wont stay in the file. Plus my video card supports it (i said geforce Ti-4400 but i forgot the 4 : geforce4 ti-4400), so that shouldnt be the issue. Finally, Umbra was used since Velious, there is little chance that this is something new with GoD that makes the game crash.

There was a little update yesterday, since then, I didnt crash once.... /crossing my fingers!

I had a few people in my guild who have had this problem. My advice to them was to go to explorer and run windows update and apply all patches, just not the critical ones. This has cleared it up for each person so far.

Cheers,

I've been encountering the same trouble recently but only very irregularily. I run WinXP Pro with the majority of the patches, for those that care to follow along. Mine rarely dumps to desktop with the message and very rarely will bluescreen with a pointer to the nvidia driver (which is current).

No issues running other apps and I've tweaked things a little to see if I can isolate the problem. I'll let ya know if I do.

Well I've tried all of the above (new system so dust was definately not a problem) and still having the problem. Only in EQ though everything else is ok and it only started in EQ after GOD - Everytime they add a code fix I keep hoping.

THey had a little code patch about 36 hours ago (I think) and since then I didnt have a single lockup... Seems to have done the job for me!

I left myself logged on last night when I turned in, and I'm still up after 12 hours. Maybe that code patch did the job. (crosses fingers, toes etc.)

I got stuck in Natimbi with the EQ has detected a client crash thing.

I called EQ Tech help, and actually managed to talk to a human being... only to find that EQ isn't really supposed to work with laptops. :(

He did suggest I download drivers, so I called Dell and they walked me through that.

A friend suggested turning off 3D sky and turning plane clipping all the way down, and with the lot of those changes, I was able to at least stay in natimbi long enough to hit the port I had loaded.

My problem also has cleared up (although I did finally install SP1) since the patch.

I had a similar problem. Turned out that there were some superfluous "Data" in my Userfiles folder. Every time I tried to load UI or change zones... it crashed. And only on one character, on one account. That character had a few extra files in the folder mentioned above.
