Ok, you've heard all the class complaints and wishes. But what if we translated them to real life? Here's a few:

In EQ: Clerics want invisibility

In RL: The clergy want invisibility. It's not fair that secular people, farmers, computer programmers and the like, can become invisible. The Pope himself appealed to SOE for invisibility after an invisible dry-wall hanger stole his hat during mass.

In EQ: Druids want an animal based "slow"

In RL: CNN Reports: Today members of the Pagan movement staged a protest at Stone Henge asking for animal tranquilizing guns from SOE. They clutched the crystals around their necks and prayed and chanted until it began to rain. Then they claimed they actually were praying for rain and they went home.

In EQ: Shamans want better heals.

In RL: The Maori Tribal Shamans Association met outside the capital of Australia, Canberra, to protest the lack of funds for proper medical training. Armiri Magunta, a shaman, complained, "Our healing skills have fallen behind those of Western medicine. Our people are losing faith in faith healing!".

In EQ: Rogues think Ranger's with trueshot are overpowered.

In RL: The Teamsters Union crashed a meeting of Wildlife Preserve Rangers in Yosemite. The Teamsters, protesting that Rangers are overpowered, broke the bows and arrows of the Rangers and created an enormous bon fire of the broken weapons. A scuffle ensued and was only ended when the local constabulary arrived. The Teamsters escaped into the surrounding area and the rangers tried to track them down but they failed to find any of the Ruffians.

You might get a better refund. :)

Don't mention taxes... that's a bad word around my household.

Being self-employed really sucks sometimes. Having to write a check 4 times a year for your taxes really reminds you how big a bite they take :(

Self-Employed myself, I hear ya Kerech.

Nod, I think those IRS forms are starting to get to ya Pan. If you start seeing random objects morphing into something different, it's time to put down the Schedule C's and walk away.

DONE!!!

I wish taxes were an arcade game. If so, I had a pretty good score this year. Only owed $471 dollars. Of course, I made next to nothing last year... If my record keeping weren't so absymal I probably could've managed to not owe anything. Bad, bad Pan.

I'd rather put the money into a traditional IRA and have it deducted from my taxable income. I've done before and after worksheet just to check how much money I've saving.

If I don't contribute to an IRA, I owe them around 200.00. If I do contribute to an IRA, I get a refund of about 200.00. I look at it like the IRS is helping to pay some of my retirement!

Look into that, everyone! Cause limits on maximum deductions are being raised to $3,500 soon, and if you make less than 50k a year, single, you can lop that straight off the top.

No one here seriously expects there to be a Social Security department when you retire, do they? I hope not, cause there won't!

Depending on your age, it may actually be more tax savings efficient to put the money in a Roth IRA instead. You may not get the instant gratification of the tax rebate now, but later on, when you're on a fixed income and paying taxes may be more of a burden, getting your retirement money tax free could be a good thing. And if you are lucky enough to have the ability to do so, putting money in both is always good.

But yes, putting ANY money into retirement is good. I don't anticipate any money being left in social security by the time I retire.

As an aside: the reason 65 was the chosen age when social security was first implemented was that it was the average life expectency. It was designed to help out people who outlived their savings, not as an actual retirement plan. Only problem was there was no verbage to increase that age as our lifespans increased, so the public forgot that it was there to keep the very old from starving to death and started looking at it as their 'retirement savings'.

I think pets should be dependents. After all, they're pretty danged dependent on me.

I once checked into the legality of marrying my dog (before I met my current husband) as I would then be able to not only claim him as a dependent, but claim myself as head of household. And all his veterinary care could be written off as well.

Alas, it is not legal in Oregon to marry your dog.

Yes, but would you have to file a joint return? And what form do you report Casualty Loss of Buried Meat Bones?

Jinjre

I believe claiming head of household you can still file 'married filing separately' but I recall at the time determining that since he has no income, I would have gotten a much larger personal exemption for the two of us if we filed jointly.

I think buried meat bones falls under capital losses, so I couldn't carry over more than 3K per year on the bones.
