How do you get folders to just show their sizes in browser view?

You mean the size of the files that the folder contains?

I dont think you can. It'd have to index the entire tree and add up the files every time you had a view that contained a folder.

I just right click on the folder and get properties if I need to know the size of everything that's in it.

or, you could check the size of your harddrive, delete the files or folders, check the size of your hard drive again, and then subtract the second number from the first and you get the size of the files.

Right-click the folder, select properties. Among the infomation will be the total memory used.

I don't think it needs to index anything, as you can see the folder size(as well as contents) is shown on mouse hover.

I just want to look at browser view and see the file difference between image and images folders for example. Windows already knows the size, just wondering if there was a hack or toy for it, that's all.

I can't be the first person who wanted it. IIRC, Windows 3.1 even would show directory size.

When you mouse hover, it actually starts indexing the folder... you can tell if you do it over a really big / complicated folder, you can actually see the Size indicator counting up as it adds up the file sizes inside (try a hover over your eq dir, or better yet, a Knights of the Old Republic installation...) This time can be shortened or nearly removed depending on what file system you are using (i.e. NTFS) and if you have the Windows XP Indexing Service running.

Windows 3.1 File Manager (as I recall) was the same, though there were other programs that did and reindexed on the fly. In dos (or command window), you can type dir /s to list all the subdirectories and files, and get a total at the end.

I dont see your mouse in that pic, so not sure what you are pointing at to get the hover.

You can get basic total info for the window you are looking at, you just have to enable the Status Bar in the View menu.

Well, if you're a unix geek, you call them "directories" and not namby pamby "folders" and then you download and install the cygwin utilities and use "find" and "du".
