This week the live servers had a new group of monsters added as part of a new event.

In Horizons, there is a substantial role play community who takes that aspect of the game pretty seriously. That can be somewhat at odds with the humor of the developers, which runs a bit punny with NPC's like Shears Roebuck, and Lady Margerine.

So...this week...the dread new force facing adventurers is....is....ALCOHOL!

Yep, and that is just one "flavor." They come in Rum, Whisky, Ale, and Vodka flavors that I have seen so far. And the quest tied into the event (there usually is something) involves collecting a hell of a lot of bottle caps.

I have to say, as much as the models are the same as golems already in game, the skin is a very impressive job - all sparkly and moving. Add to that their special attacks - "On the Rocks" and "Dash of Whisky" (something like that, and yes, I kid you not!), and you get a kind of fun and irreverent new event.

The name of the event? Why, The Bitter Pickle...of course!

The Bitter Pickle is the name of a dwarven ale house that was overrun by these beasties, and they and the undead patrons of the bar lurk there, waiting to be slain for their treasure of bottlecaps.

I sound a bit snide here I think, but I have to admit...I was enjoying this event a lot ; ).

I groaned when I saw this event. Oh well, I'm stuck on Draak until I find a way to defeat the Entombed soul anyway, far far from malevolent alcohol.

Even if you hate the RP and punny=ness of it, Baptismo, make a point of going and looking at them. A still shot doesn't do them justice...that skin is kind of annimated and it looks like fluid flowing under the surface. Definitely worth seeing, since you never know if these things will disappear when the event is over ; 0.

And yes, there are a LOT of groaners out there in Istaria. One of the ones I didn't pick up on until another player kind of said it slowly for me was the undead mob Crankenspank...

I know so many dwarven clerics on EQ that would think they'd died and gone to heaven!

I see it two ways...

1) You are fighting Alcoholism!

2) Alcohol Abuse!!!

Actually, I found Crankenspank about level 10. I found his name very funny. We make puns about him a lot. You know, the usual ones. Cranky needs spanking. He's cranky today. Crank spanked us.

That doesn't happen anymore, now crank gets spanked, but um ,this is a family board.

Shears Robuck is in there and tolerable, and I actually don't mind the fat little gnome with a pie eating habit named Marie Margerine.

Puns are a staple for humor in RPG's from way back to the first days of D&D. I might just put the alcool elementals into my D&D world. Have the PC's chance upon a squad of Dwarven Battleragers chasing the Alcohol Golems who run scared to pieces.

Actually I had them use some other effects on me last night. Besides "On the rocks" (an ice based Dot and root / snare), there is splash of whisky (still not sure what it does). But the worst one is something like hmm pucker attack. It says your mouth has been stuffed with limes, but what it seems to do is silence you, at least for your DD spells.

So what does a bottle cap collection get you? Well, if you are the a summoning oriented class (conjuror, knight of creation I believe both can get)....

THIS....

The second of the epic spells introduced to the game. I am looking forward to seein it in action first hand ; ).

Incidentally, the guy with the swords IS the spell effect...
