I’d like to see SOE go back to their roots with the next expansion. Locked zones, key quests, and flagging encounters isn’t fun. I personally liked the Lower Guk days, the Sebelis camps (though this was a keyed dungeon it was pretty simple to get in). Instanced zones is a great idea, but I like the community feel of open dungeons.

Kunark was a great expansion with two towns, a new land discovered on Norrath with tons of zones to explore, each one having a nice unique feel. I liked running through zones and seeing the huge statues and the feel that this land is ancient and has a long history of it’s own. I loved that there were dragons in certain zones that would roam around. Really the only part of Kunark that I didn’t like was Veeshan’s Peak. Long key quest for a poorly designed zone isn’t a good idea. Reminds me of Vex Thal! 95% of the content was open to anyone with the expansion on opening day. THIS is a good idea.

Scars of Velious, while pretty damn good expansion, still didn’t have that ‘feeling’ that Kunark had. Shadows of Luclin…well Shadows of Luclin was on the moon… err??? While Planes of Power had some great boss mob fights, the flagging systems was the suck and there were no good large dungeons to hunt in. Now we have Gates of Discord. This expansion is so bad in so many ways, it’s tough to find a good place to start. Let’s start with the ‘town’. The Abysmal Sea is hard to get to and virtually removed from the rest of the expansion. The reason for this? There are only like 8 new monster models. Each one of the new MOB models comes more out of Sci-Fi then it does Norrathian themes. There are only a handful of ‘open’ zones. Flagging is back in full force. Also we have content that has broken classes. In my mind Gates of Discord is the worst expansion to date.
