What a bunch of hype. M.Night's movies appear to be on a curved decline since 6th Sense. =(

Makes me sad.

Anyways "The Village" is an "ok" film if you had not been following the hype on SciFi and other channels. I can go ahead and tell you without spoiling the film that those previews that you have watched in the past few months are the scariest part of the whole show. =(

I went and saw "The Village" yesterday evening, expecting to be scared out of my seat and to be mentally stimulated by the usual M.Night's clever script writting and directing to be sorely dispointed and leaving the theater feeling that I just spent 1.5 hours of my life watching a National Geographic documentary. (Not that there is anything wrong with National Geographic, I often watch it at HOME where I don't pay 8 bucks to see it.)

So be warned! It is not what you expect.

/rant off =)

Anyways I'm new to these druid boards and if this is too rantish for OT I humbly apologize.

*laughs* just saw a review of it on CBS News Sunday Morning. He ripped it to shreds.

GRRR that bums me out :( I was expecting a super scary movie. Guess I'll wait till it comes out on DVD instead of forking over 20 bones to go see it on the big screen.

I won't go see any movie with Sigourney Weaver in it. I know she's like an icon for Alien fans, but to me she is just brutal to look at and to watch perform.

She did kick ass in Aliens though!

Havent seen the Village, but Ebert and Roper split on it so seems like it could go either way.

My brother, and my ex both loved it... I'm normally on par with their movie opinions, so I'm guessing I'll probably like it too. :)

We'll see though. I'll see it this week then be back with my piece on it.

Just for kicks, here's a bit of what my brother had to say on the subject:

"People saying the village was boring, stupid and not scary, is like people saying lost in translation was slow, nothing happened and it wasn't funny. To me it just displays a person's willingness to be emotionally stunted, jaded, cynical, unimaginative, and ignorant. "

I will try to type my response without any specifics about the movie, but if you go in expecting another Sixth Sense, or even Unbreakable, you will be disappointed. If you go in with no high expectations whatsoever, you will come out thinking it was an ok flick.

To me, I was looking forward to it from the previews. It was being marketed as a "horror" or "scary" thriller type movie from the trailers I had seen. Then the unthinkable happened. I was reading a website, and clicked on a post, and BAM! whole movie synopsis. :tut:

However, this is one movie I was glad that got "spoiled" for me early on. Going into the movie knowing exactly what the "suprise" ending was for this film, made it bearable to watch. If it hadn't been spoiled for me, and I had gone into the movie expecting only what I had gathered from the previews, I probably would have been highly pissed off and felt cheated, like many are feeling.

All in all, no "disbelief breaking" parts in it like Signs had, i.e., it didn't have aliens that were vulnerable to water in it! (I hated Signs. There's willing supension of disbelief, then there's movies you need a lobotomy to enjoy)

"Aliens are in the yard!"
"Quick, turn on the sprinklers and/or hide behind a pantry door! They can't do anything against either of them!"

Uh oh... if it's anything like lost in translation, I probably won't like it.
