Ok....first my system Specs...

P4 2.6 800mhz fsb
1GB DDR 400
Radeon 9700 AIW Pro (128mb version)
rest of stuff is similar.

I load up Doom 3(got a friend who works at EB Games so I got it early) and hit "autoset my options".

It puts me at 640x480 with the absolute lowest graphics settings. I think NO FRIKKING WAY!

So, I go ahead and crank it up a little...medium graphics(1 step above lowest), 1024x768....figure it might stutter but should be ok.

Intro is pretty good, actually looks like its got more to it than just run around and kill. Had to get my pda and upload security codes. Found a few more running around so has a little stealth/hacker feel to it so far.

I get my first combat mission...go save this scientist. I go down and get jumped......Frikkin freezeframe as soon as I get into my first fight.
I think ...DAMN,

So I crank it down..800x600 and try again and again I get freezeframing!!
So with what I thought was a halfway decent system I am forced to go to 640x480 with absolute minimum graphics to even play. I haven't even tried it yet. Figure I'll mess with it tomorrow.

I will say that it looked damn good before I started fighting at the lower settings so it must be absolutely incredible on something that's actually powerful enough to play it :P

Turn off all the background junk. And turn off M$ office's junk it loads on start up. Virus software ect ect.

Or it could just be a memory leak. Patch inc? heh

I had freezing too, but updated my video driver (ATI 9600) and now it runs smooth. I'm only running at 800x600 and it looks great! And it's an awesome game!

Turn out the lights, crank up the sound and prepare to be scared :)

Here's a post I put over at Graffe's, but I'll copy it here too.
==================================
I have a P4 2.8 ghz, 1G ram, ATI 9600

I feel like Doom3 runs much better than FarCry, but it's hard to compare since FarCry has such big outdoor environments and I've been mostly indoors so far in Doom3 (though there are some outdoor scenes here and there). I'm running Doom3 at 800x600 on the medium visual quality setting. It looks fantastic and runs very well playability wise. Going to try it at 1024x768 tonight and see what happens

Some spoilerish stuff below:

As far as storyline goes, it reminds me a lot of Half-Life. Scientists messing with something they don't understand, portal to hell (or other dimension, whatever) opens, etc. It looks like there may be some military people involved too as I keep running across some shadowy figures talking about what they should do, etc. The story unfolds as you play. You are constantly running across the PDAs of dead scientists/military people that give you information. You can then listen to log entries where they tell what they were working on, or sometimes they give security access codes you need later on. There's chatter on your helmet radio and some of the computers still work, showing things that were being worked on. There are video disks you come across too, but so far the only ones I've found are UAC advertising videos (not very far into the game yet though).

The screenshots at this link (http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33772889&page=1&pp=30) are mostly from the early going, but the female models shown in some of them I haven't run across yet, so they must be further in.

Weapons I've found so far are pistol (weakest), shotgun (nice, but with slow re-cock), machine gun (nice ) and grenades. Haven't found the chainsaw that I see in some pics yet and haven't found rocket launcher that was shown in some videos.

The physics are great. Ragdoll physics combined with knockback weapons means you're blowing bodies around quite nicely Some of the demons have a great disintegration effect when they die too. The wrench-wielding zombies in some of the shots hit pretty hard and can knock you around while you're trying to shoot back which makes it fun to hit them.

The gripe about the flashlight I agree with - it's maddening to switch on the flashlight and look in a dark corner only to have an imp spring out at you and claw you up while you're trying to re-equip your weapon

So far, I'd have to say that id has delivered on their promise to make a game that'll blow you away
