Last week I got a new bracer of the stoutheart from a Tipt trial, and while I love the focus effect (Focus of Mediocrity) I was wondering, will the cleave 1 effect give me the ability to crit melee? Or would it just increase the chance if I already had the ability to do so? The affect on it is:

1: Chance to crit (20)
2: Chance to crit (20)
3: Chance to crit (20)
4: Chance to crit (20)
5: Chance to crit (20)
6: Chance to crit (20)
7: Chance to crit (20)
8: Chance to crit (20)
9: Chance to crit (20)
10: Chance to crit (20)

I think it would be fun to crit a melee attack every once in a while, even though it probably wouldn't be that useful. I haven't seen any melee crits yet, though.

Pretty sure I've seen clerics with the tipt bracer crit, but not certain on that. :(

When GoD came out, it gave any class the ability to crit in melee (and made them crit A LOT), then they neutered the effect for a few days, and put a changed version back which I don't believe allows classes without innate melee crit chance to crit.

AFAIK they changed it basically from something like a +20% crit chance to a (crit chance*1.2) modifier. (no, those aren't the same, if your innate crit chance is say 10%, the first one would make it 30%, the second one would make it 12%, similarly, if your innate crit chance is 0% as it is for priests, then the first one would make it 20% and the second would make it 0%)

Update: I did crit melee twice last night in a Sewers Trial:

So it does give us some small chance to crit melee.

*nod*

I crit too, and all i have with Cleave is this bracer. I've done it in Plane of Innovation on the blue mobs pulled to zone in within the past couple days. :)

I had a really lucky couple of rounds last night in the same Sewer Trial, and crit two slashes in a row for (193) and (158). That almost comes close to meaninful melee damage if you don't count the many other swings-and-misses I took that expedition.

Glad you found the answer yourself. No better way to make your night then with a surprise crit or 12.

/hugs his Bracer of the Stoutheart....

I'm bitter about this bracer.

Clerics and Paladins (and all plate classes) get Marr's Gift.
Druids get a minor Extended Affliction?

Plate, Chain, and Leather all should have had Cleave and Marr's Gift.

Focus of Mediocrity is an extender on any buffs, debuffs, dots that last for 24 seconds or more.

I already have heal focus on my arms, i don't need it on my wrist too. However, i did badly need a extended buff/debuff/dot focus, and these bracers have that!

I still say it's weak.

1) The shield from Vxed already has EE4 on it.
2) Clerics also get Marr's Gift from their Elemental Arms, but that doesn't stop them from getting it on their bracer.
3) As a VT level focus, Mediocrity will be capped/peaked at 65 when the new spells come out. So it won't do much for new DoTs and Buffs. (yes, it really is VT. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=12904 New focus effect levels are on Lucy and Alla, and this stops at 65)

On a personal note, Leathers arms have dropped THREE times in the entire time we've been farming the elementals and killing the Ele Gods. Never when I'm around, and I've been hoarding DKP.

It sure would be nice for the Tipt Bracer to have MG. :)

I prefer mediocrity, as it's one of the few dot extension items pre-time (type 7 aug slot = pre-time) other than a crappy ldon aug (i say crappy because it involves ldon). I have marr's gift on ele arms plus my VP quest ring, so I'd *really* love having 3 instances of that.

Yes, Focus of Mediocrity stops working *for full* at 65, but at 70 it will still be 50% effective, and since our dots are 69 (Vengeance of the Sun), 67 (Immolation of the Sun) and 68 (Wasp Swarm), that means that it will have 60, 80 and 70% effectiveness respectively, which should still be enough to add 1 tick to the latter two of them (all it does on VoT and SD anyways), plus 8th coldain shawl takes precedence over Mediocrity for beneficial spells anyways.

Thicket proves that Mediocrity is no better than the purchaseable Extended Torment Augment. As you mentioned, it's worse buff extension than the shawl.

Love my bracer.

I concur.

The only way i'd love it more is if it had Timeburn or Chronoburn on it.
