Just a bit of a test with animal charms and hasting.

Thought I would charm a rat in Dranik's Scar for some pet fun.
Got him to fight a kyv heartpiercer.

Rat was hitting for about 103ish, which HAD to be normal dmg because
a named earlier was hitting ME for 144ish...so rumors about 1/2 damage
may be false, or not in this zone, or only certain mobs, etc.

Then, I figured I'd go ahead and try to haste the pet, to see if hastes were diabled.

haste landed. Not sure if it helped, since I had "Pet Misses" filtered, but it surely landed as a buff icon on my pet. I'll have to test some more today, but at least in Scar zone, seems to work fine.

Of course, most people won't care about THIS zone since they're 65, but for my 55 druid it wasn't too bad (most things are dark blue).

SOE's probably combing the forums for bugs like this. Don't panic though!! I'm sure it will be fixed before any pre-OoW issues.

just get any number of log parser software, and /log in game. all of them calculate attack delay and DPS, it would be easy to tell if its hasted.

When a mob is charmed it gets on a new damage table. Not all mobs that are charmed in OoW have the same damage table when charmed. The average is supposed to be 50%, but it seems you had a rat that was 60-70%. I heard reports of mobs from the Dranik's Hollow instance hitting at 45%.

So it varies from mob type to mob type.

I have to say that is a tactful way of handling the overpowering nature of charm spells.

Been charm killing alot in Draniks Hollow. Charm nerfs pet DPS to little under 45% (508 hits for 225 when charmed)

Big uproar with enchanters is that none of the risk is reduced for the pets "variable" charm duration. XP penalty still applies and the DPS of some enchanters is on par with the DPS of a charmed pet w/o the risk. So charm was nerfed to the point of non-use unless you get a really hard hitter (1K+) that makes up for the risk.

All in all, being able to charm more is better, but 55% damage reduction for pretty much all NPCs was too broad a range.

Time will tell. :)

Need a consensus here, the first poster was using our old charm on a oow mob.
Was his charmed mob doing reduced damage or is charm just limited to new spel or is it just limited to oww zones.

Please post when you have new data.

From my testing it's the mobs that have the new 'while charmed' damaged tables and it has nothing to do with the spell used.

Or the zone.. I used a Bront in WW to take down Stronghorn and he was doing half dmg also.

Funny thing is, yet again, charm nerfs leave bards unchanged, since bards charm for exp in reverse. Its the other mobs hitting the pet that the bard wants, and charm could make his/her pet do zero damage and it would be just as well.

For high level NPCs, the charm nerf is much worse. A level 66-67 NPC (which normally hits for 500-700) will hit for 245 or 260 max (~60% nerf) and a level 68-69 NPC (which normally hits for 700-900) will hit for 275 max (~70% nerf). As far as I've seen, there is no "table", just a set damage amount for a given level. Also, the charm nerf affects zones not spells, so it does not matter what spell you use.

OoW essentially killed the DPS value of charm at high levels. Why waste tons of mana on charm and risk getting summoned and killed on charm breaks, when you can do nearly the same damage nuking with zero risk?

My charmed Chimera in WoS only hits for 300ish max, 25% of the norm max. Its useless aside from egressing with hasted pet in the middle of people you don't like.

Don't forget to get the pet hurt so that it summons the people you don't like! ^_^

Giving it magic resist and a damage shield right before would help, too. Adds are bonus points.
