You might petition a GM, but I don't know how responsive they would be..

lol - surely your character isn't that far along where it would matter that much so yeah I'd say just go ahead and delete. GMs take forever to respond - even to legitimate questions.

GM is very likely to say "No" as well. I'd agree, best option if you want to change your name is probably to recreate your character.

To answer your question, a GM is a "Game Master", someone who works for Blizzard and has controls over the game. As the the other say, you may want to create a new character, but I would at least try the petition route before you do that, so you're not throwing away the time you've spent. I also know that GMs have the ability to change a character's name, as they forced me to change mine because I had a ë in my name saying it was against the TOS (which is BS because I reread the TOS and it doesn't say anything about it). It was funny, because I had petitioned a GM from a different character on a different server, and they looked through all my characters, then after not helping me with my problem, forced me to change my name on another character... grr... not bitter ... grrr...

Anyway to petition a GM, hit that little ? button on your toolbar near your Map icon.

They have the power to change names to enforce the TOS against violators of the name policy, but I seriously doubt they would let you because you want to.

The danger is the people that buy the whole accounts on ebay, of course they would all rather change them to something they chose rather than chosen by the farmer, and by not allowing it Blizzard helps discourage the practice.

btw, sometimes you'll see "GM" in chat or a forum and they are referring to Guild Masters, who only have powers within their own guilds, not the game in general (promotion, demotion, kicking, etc...)
