Blizzard has unveiled their new World of Warcraft community site (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/), with a different look and layout.

In addition, they have posted a little bit about the new Jewelcrafting profession (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/jewelcrafting.html) coming with the Burning Crusade expansion.

Jewel Craftin seems to be another way to enchant and getting new set bonuses. Seems nice, I was expecting something else, like making rings/trinkets/neckpieces but then again Blizzard suprised us once again.

From E3 press about Jewel Crafting, you'll be able to make rings/necks/trinkets. The socketed items are just the new "oooh" thing that's getting the attention.

More enchant like things! Wewtz!

Is the idea that the base weapon w/o any jewels in it has fewer stat points so its just a matter of customization, or are they meant to be in addition like enchants?

Also, do you think you'll be able to get enchants on these items in addition to the jewels?

If you ever played Diablo 2, this concept should not be a suprise at all.

I assume everyone has played with the example piece by now.

Have you noticed the one gem's effect is straight +dmg (not dmg and heals), I wonder if this is a new mechanic we will see developing in other gear. As far as the sockets go you can add the healing gem to to get the dmg and healing effect, but if you aren't thinking about it you might get a surprise.

As far as I know the only +dmg only effect in game right now is the spell power enchant.

Speaking of the new website, has anyone else attempted to manage their account and been unable to due to a broken link (404 file not found)? I'm pretty pissed cause its blocked me from going to an Ony raid that my guild has been building up to for a while.
