Just about every druid knows the Barkskin + Catform trick. Toss up Barkskin, go Cat, and you're safe from fall-related deaths. I used to jump off of mount Hyjal, straight into Felwood, and survive with a few hundred health. It was the Druid's slow fall, without the slow.

Recently, I tried to get to the Dancing Troll Village between Winterspring, Felwood, and Darkshore. I threw up my Barkskin, shifted to Cat, and jumped, expecting to survive the fall. I took 100% damage, and died.
At first, I figured it was a fluke. In fact, just two days ago, I jumped down into Buru's pit in AQ20 from the pipe, landing on the ground on purpose with Barkskin and Cat form up. I lived with the usual "would've killed you" health.
Just 5 minutes ago, I jumped from one of the branches on Teldrassil to one farther down. It couldn't have been any higher than the Buru jump. Again, 100% damage, and a death.
This is all after 1.12, when they changed the haste and slow effects. Before that, it worked fine.

Can anyone else confirm this? Was it intentional, or did the genius Blizz coders mess it up with 1.12? I really hope our only exploration trick hasn't been nerfed, or I'll be very, very angry.

This has been in place for months now... I can't rember which patch it was off the top of my head. You are correct tho' at some time in the past Barkskin would prevent death from any sized fall... now your at the mercy of whatever the safefall will allow.

I could've sworn it worked perfectly fine untill 1.12.
I should go jump off Hyjal again just to test it.

hmm... i can no longer jump down from upper "ring" down to MC entrence in Blackrock. This change have most definetly come with 1.12.

you can do the MC jump, but you have to do it in two leaps, stopping at the little ledge in the middle
